Exactly.
TPP got nowhere. meanwhile the countries that participated in TPP had already soured their relationship with China.
Before jumping in with both feet into IPEF, we have to weigh pros and cons.
China has already opened up entire Chinese economy and market for our exports - free of tariff for the most part. That takes a lot of goodwill to do.
Should we dishonor that goodwill? Why?
How will IPEF or US match this facility that the Chinese have offered us??
There is highest tariff on almost everything we export to the US, while Vietnam has a lot lower amount.
The US did not do us any special favors trade-wise, far from it.
And we mainly just export one product to the US - Underpriced clothes for Walmart and Target. Imagine. We are not even a trade rival and they pull this on us.
Their poor folks would have a hard time buying these clothes cheap without our exports.
Other countries have lower tariff on exports to the US as well. Why this step-motherly behavior??
@Homo Sapiens bhai - would you agree with this?
