Throughout mankind’s history, man has always created weapons that would add to the complexity of warfare. In the middle ages, the Chinese created chaos on the battlefield by deploying the first gun-powder weapon against the invading Mongolians. Similarly, the British reviled the Maxim gun against the African colonists. Likewise, the Americans dominated Japan by unleashing Little Boy and Fat Man. All of these weapons were intended to shorten the time frame of war and play a huge psychological game with the enemy. The Truman Administration was just in dropping the bomb on Japan, because the atomic bomb was intended to save thousands of lives, and shape the post-WWII political stage with major American influence. Most American military plans were met with stubborn resistance from the Japanese, and without Germany, Italy, and Japan the political landscape of the world was in need of restoration and a new superpower.

To begin with, unlike the European Theater, the Pacific Theater saw some of the most intense and bloodiest battles the world had ever seen. The Japanese were very dedicated to their country and were all prepared to fight to their death. This was mainly because they looked up to their emperor as a god-like figure and saw Japan as their “Fatherland.” The Japanese fought fiercely for islands that were of little importance, for example, the Battles of Okinawa saw the deaths of “12,000 American soldiers and 120,000 Japanese soldiers” Many American planer concluded, the battle would take a maximum of two weeks. In fact due to intense fighting, the battle lasted for 82 days. The pattern of stubborn fighting continued throughout the Island Hopping Campaign, each island came with a huge price for the Allies. The fierce battle of Iwo Jima force the Americans to take reconsidered the invasion of mainland Japan, “ Because the Japanese on Iwo Jima... were so fierce in their defense, even when cut off, and without supplies, and because casualties were so appalling, many American strategists looked for an alternative means to subdue mainland Japan, other than a direct invasion.” As a result. The alternative was using the Manhattan Project on key Japanese cities. After looking over all possible options, Truman believed that an invasion of the Japan would have been a suicidal mission, many Generals, such as, Admiral William Leah estimated that “There would be more than 250,000 Americans killed or wounded on Kyushu alone.” However, allied intelligences showed the Japanese had built up fortification and saved many elite units for the defense of the homeland, “Along the invasion beaches would be the three Japanese divisions, a tank brigade, a mixed infantry brigade and an artillery command. Components of two divisions would also be poised to launch counterattacks.” In conclusion, after looking at many reports, Truman knew that the Atom bomb would be the only way to save the lives of thousands and destroy the fighting morale of the Japanese people.

For early decades of the 20th century, Germany, Italy and Japan ruled much of the world with an iron fist and had major political influence over world affairs. For example, Hitler gained so much influence that he managed to take the Sudetenland without a single shot fired. Hitler managed to take the land without any bloodshed is solely credited to the vast military might he posed. However, since Germany, Italy and Japan were near collapse there was a world power vacancy, which urgently need to be filled. The United States feared that the Soviet Union would become a sole super power. Near the end of WWII, the Kremlin control ranged from the Far East all the way to Berlin. The Americans and the allies feared the vast military might of the Soviet Union may dictated post war agreements and ultimately spread Communism throughout much of Europe and Asia. In order to prevent Soviet domination, the Americans needed to show their military might by unleashing their ultimate weapon, according to then-US secretary of state, “Impressing Russia was more important than ending the war in Japan." Truman believed that by using the atom bomb, the united States would have an advantage militarily and politically against the Soviets. During the war the soviets had a vast amount of soldiers and military equipment, “ At its peak an estimated 12.5 million men and women fought in the Red Army.” The western world knew that unchallenged the soviets would dominate much of the modern world. In order to challenge the Soviets, the United States needed to surpass the Soviet mighty by making Nagasaki and Hiroshima an example of American power. By bombing Japan, the world was sure to know the results of going to war or threatening the intersects of the United States around the world. After the bombing of the two cities “All soviet troops advancements into Manchuria and the far east were immediately halted by the soviet Premier Stalin.” As a result, the atom bomb forced the Soviets to stop their advance into Asia without putting one US soldier on the ground. In conclusion, the dropping of the bomb was a major political and military move because the bomb insured that the US would be the sole super power without any opposing countries.

The dropping of the bomb was a major step into the future, but it came with a deadly price. However, ingredients during the end of the World War were more than appropriate to justice the use of an atomic bomb. While many plans were thought for invading Japan, many of the plans result in the killing of thousands of soldiers and destruction of the Japanese mainland, due to the stubborn and aggressive fighting style of the Japanese. The Atomic bomb made sure that the war would be over in a matter of day, without the deaths of thousands of American troops. The bomb not only carried America through the war, but also insured that America would be the sole superpower with major political and military influences. However using the bomb for unjustified purpose would be a crime against humanity.

The bombings were not just, but they were necessary to bring about a quick end to the war.

nuke Japan is not necessary, because US was afraid that Russia and China will invade the Japan. That will change the history of Japan slavery to US today.

.
A war that was going to be concluded by Russian was won by Unites States by dropping nukes on Japan. United States took the first position on the victory stand, who cares how many Japanese had to pay with their lives for American victory.

Had Japan surrendered to Russia and China. Slavery to them would have been worse.

.
Of course Americans will always defend it just like chinese or russians would.

But the question is why the second bomb was dropped when the first one was enough to demonstrate the horrific destruction it can cause?.

Agree with it.

@Icarus Do read very interesting article

It was expedient to nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Either that, or a massive air and amphibious invasion of the Japanese mainland that would prolong the war.

...and the Soviets would've taken their slice of Japan too.

Agree with it.

The emperor was still not ready to give up after the first atom bomb
