Was the Bangladeshi MIG 29's necessary?

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/

he meant that if any fighter wants to bomb BD from 3 side, they will have to pass through indian air space,if they enter Indian air sapce, they will have SAM's chasing their backs n Su-30Mki/PAK-fa escorting them.....
If the fighter plane wishes to bomb Bd from bay of bengal side, they will be Intercepted by Navy warships n Aircraft carrier...then Navy would take action ,Barak 8 or some Mig-29K will be chasing him..SO BD is safe from Aerial threat....

.
FC-1 or Migs are only to play an intermittent role. BD will purchase a few squadrons of 4++ generation fighters in the next 5 years.

Isnt mig 29 a 4th gen fighter?? why do we need to buy them again if we bought them a few years back?? In my opinion, We need more transport helicopters rather than fighter jets as our country is always ravaged by natural diasters. Helicopters such as chinook will help the air force supply aid and rescue ppl in huge numbers, thus effectiviely shortening the rescue operation's duration

By your logic we should just disband military. BNCC should do it with dummy rifles.. what you say? :undecided:

Some old Mig-29?

Bangladesh needs no military at all. These lucky people are protected by India from all sides. Above all what is the reason of having unprofessional and ill equipped army , navy or air force.

Bangladesh Army's main income is UN peace missions. This is why people join army. When BDR denied UN mission there was a mutiny.

No, thats not my logic. I am saying that we have enough fighter aircrafts to repel any attack. However we have very few transport helicopters in our inventory, so instead of buying fighter aircrafts we should get some transport helicopters

1. It is known MIG 29s were procured under pressure from politico-business groups. However, they have kept BAF pilots flying, and the air force exercised. They were not too outdated when acquired.

2. Being small in size and constrained in funds BD has to be innovative in its concept of national def. India, from which all of past threats to BD's security emanated - except the English Co, has a massive, well maintained, organized, well trained and well led professional mily supported by a huge industrial base. In the East Burma was always neglected although history will prove BD leaders criminal for ignoring the sad Arakanese situation. Now due to gas exploration Burma has come out of the shade to pose a problem.

3. To my understanding in case of an invasion from the West, BD will, as always in its history, rely on its people. Def of the motherland needs no motivation for a Muslim. With the memory of the Liberation War fresh in memory, and the fables of the battles against Akbar's Gen Man Singh recounted by village bards, Partisan fighters will spring out automatically. BD has a huge trained manpower and potential leaders in the Ansars, VDP, BNCC, ex-Servicemen and others. In case of war BA will organize these and act as the crucial linkage. BA, in spite of its size, will be able to able to contain the first incursion to allow time for the internal Resistance to organize.

4. BN is being built up to provide offensive capability within the Bay. Swarming Tac, like the Iranians, will be the major maritime def option. BD is also building up an integrated coastal def system in lines of China and N Korea.

5. Ground based Air Def will obviously get priority in a country with small real estate. It is proposed to infest the country with various Stringer options.

6. BAF is probably waiting to hear what selection is made by IAF for MRCA. BAF will not like to become dummy for IAF's target practice. Therefore, BAF is looking for a comparable aircraft - never mind the numbers. Americans want BAF to choose F16 or F18. The Chinese and the Russians are offering theirs also. JV with Turkey, S Korea and Indonesia is emerging as a factor.

7. Of all nations in South Asia, BD is internally strongest. This is a nation no invader would want to come in and subdue.

@ Remember in 1965 war in East Pakistan they had only one squdren of Sabre Jet which played a havoc in the Eastern Sector. And now we have more than 100 aircrafts.

@ In the Chittagong Hill Tract we have fought more than 27 years of counter insurgency warfare and finally we succeeded.

@ In 1975/1976, the Bangladesh Army fought with Kader Sidique which was supported by India and USSR. And finally they never dare to enter the territory of Bangladesh.

@ Many members of "Bongo Bhumi", infiltrated inside Bangladesh specially in greater Khulna and Barisal Division but were thrown back. Many were put on jail. They used to carry out sabotage inside Bangladesh.

@ Even some of the members of LTTE came to joined hands with "Shant Bahini" in Chittagong Hill Tract".

These are all history now but these events are still fresh in our memory and we very well know who is our number 1 enemy. Donnot teach us.

No, Mig deal was not quite wasteful. At $18 million a piece Mig-29 it was a bargain. Today it is more expensive. BD needs many more Migs and other defensive weapons so that an enemy cannot bring war upon it for fear of a bloody nose.

BD may buy one or two squadrons of Mig-29SMT from Russia. Russia is very angry with India for the latter's decision to choose european fighters instead of Russian. It has cancelled a number of joint naval exercise with India to show its displeasures. Russia needs other markets for its Migs. BD can be one of them considering it has already purchased this from Russia.

Boy, aren't you an expert on Indo-Russ relations

And what enemy are you talking about? India? Myanmar? Yeah, other than tough talking, our military can't really even imagine going into war with those countries. Myanmar boasts the most advanced air-defense system in the region, which we don't have.

The $18 million per piece is the investment cost. There are other costs, such as spares and ammunition. What about the returns on that investment?

Russia and India are still developing their own 5th generation aircraft exclusively for the IAF. Those SU-30s are still good and the Indian Navy ordered a naval version of the MIG-29. Indo-Russ relations are still good. Just because the Indians chose European jets instead of the MIG-35 don't mean the whole house is going down as far as Indo-Russ relations go.

My point is that the MIG-29 is just wasteful as far as Bangladesh is concerned. Sure, it is cheap, but expensive to maintain. And we aren't self sufficient on spare parts and ammunition for the MIG-29, meaning all that have to be procured from Russia. Each air-to-air missile has a shelf life of 2.5 years.

And since it is the Russian MIG-29, would you consider the chances of the Russians giving off the source codes to the Indians? I know I would. It would be a disaster if they go into combat with the IAF.

There is a reason why MIG-29s are rarely seen flying the skies of Bangladesh. In fact, during the BNP administration, they seriously considered selling them off.

The reason for India buying so many toys is mainly because of China. We don't have any stake in Indo-Sino hostilities. As far as we are concerned, all we have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the show put up by the Indians and the Chinese (no offense).

The sooner they are sold off, the better. There are more pressing issues in Bangladesh than a bunch of fighters!

Not being biased, just stating the facts.

I really wonder just how much money Hasina stashed in her bank account during the procurement of the MIG-29s

Bangladesh is quite quite lucky of the fact that any airforce which wants to eneter BD will have to pass through Indian Airspace...and if a nation will attack BD India will for sure come to rescue !!!!!!!!!!!
Wow that was funny lmfao.

Wow that was funny lmfao.

That's exactly how the Indians think. India's got a really strong state propaganda machine. They all believe they were very wronged by Pakistan, in these Mumbai attacks. Even though the facts are entirely to the contrary. Half a dozen men "taking over" a three-hundred room hotel, and the Indian security forces are unable to do anything for nearly a week, in the Mumbai incident.. the Indian security forces could have broken in and took over 90% of the hotel and the half-dozen people wouldn't even have realized, because it takes alot more people to cover 300 rooms. And they still blame Pakistan.

And then Pakistan has a "Mumbai attack" situation literally every month, some new blast, attacks on Mosques and things no Muslim would do, these things that Indians stage, but this doesn't factor in their psyche.

Just like 9/11, the Indian establishment stages events like Mumbai harming their own people to achieve their geo-political aims and make their enemy Pakistan look bad, and the Indians mindlessly follow the propaganda. And while their govt stages terror attacks in Pakistan as well, these people still believe that somehow Pakistan is wronging them, that it is Pakistan that is the aggressor.

Please re-check the map of Bangladesh and see the common border between BD-Burma, BD-India and India-Burma. A Burmese plane certainly does not have to fly through Indian airspace. Do you guys have any other nations in your mind? Hope, it is not Nepal, Bhutan and Sikim. China can also come by overflying Burmese airspace. But, it has targetted its missiles on India.
