Was INSAS rifle really ever used on ground zero of Indian insurgency battlefields/war battlefield?

Was INSAS rifle really ever used on ground zero of Indian insurgency battlefields/war battlefield or was it only confined to papers?

If it was used in civilian areas for riots, it means it is not military rifle but merely a police gun.

Call spade a spade then. Why call it army weapon then?

I have a faint memory of reading in 2001-02 that Russian rifles were supplied in hurry for fighting in 1999 Kargil war. At that time, there were talks of gratitude to Russia and Russia proving to be a useful ally for giving arms in times of need. But nowadays I read everywhere that INSAS was used in Kargil and I find no mention of Russia delivering. Could it be that Indian military-industrial complex is distorting information available in public domain? Could it be massive misinformation campaign since the actual information pertains to distant past?

Even the second alternative in the poll is a negative vote for INSAS because it means the rifle is used against weak opponents like Naxalites who are almost as ill-armed as civilians and not against army or real militants like in Kashmir.

I don't know, it was automatic rifle, firing in short bursts. Don't know what military or police weapon has to do with it.

Nope actually, I dug a bit deeper and yes, India DID import AK-47s from Russia during Kargil war. INSAS had numerous problems and India indeed imported AKs. But that said, it saw quite a bit of action in Kargil time. So OPs claim is actually bogus. INSAS, designed in 1990s is a pretty shoddy piece of craftsmanship. It used to jam and crack in magazine in cold weather. Here are some articles and one guy actually did a dissection of the gun and found it to be poorly designed and manufactured. Its failure rate is around 3% compared to 0.06 percent of AKs.
