The Aster 15 & 30 missiles are also vastly superior to any other SAM currently in production.

For a true multi-role destroyer, AEGIS equipped Arleigh Burke-class destroyers Flight I and II are still "the most powerful", Flights IIA and onward are not equipped with anti-ship missiles.

SM3 is primarily intended for ballistic-missile defense duties as opposed to fleet air defense - it doesn't have the maneuverability or the 'intelligence' (among other things) to cope with high performance maritime air threats.

RIM-174 Standard is a much better air-defense missile than SM3 and is the only missile with capabilities approaching that of Aster.
