Want some locomotives?

best way to over come crowed is is use hi-tech. system for signaling so more tains can be run on same tracks with more fast speed.
With the limited budget railway is using every inch of its track, and now a days you can see a train standing just before station for another train to leave.. Using hi-tech will further increase their operating cost, and in India we have Mamta kind of politicians who won't let this happen..:hitwall:

hi-tech signaling system and ACD will help trains to run on same track in close gap.

Yes, few thousands of km of tracks are being laid every year to increase capacity.

from what I hear, railway development happens mostly in Uttar pradesh,Bihar,
Tamilnadu,W.Bengal etc.

add to this, there are powerful "zone lobby" like Chennai Zone which eats up funds and new trains for Kerala to Tamilnadu sabotaging railway development equally all over India.

Any Idea why there are no private railway locomotives manufacturer in India? Korea has Hyundai(assuming it's not PSU) for example.

Gigawatt;3435103]Yes, few thousands of km of tracks are being laid every year to increase capacity.

congratulation but for the size of country Indian is i think they should be going 5 or six times that speed unless Indian Railways is also Running deficits.

Engine manufacturing plants are government owned. Although government is opening more locomotive manufacturing plant but we have to wait for some more years.

sooner or later they will have to privatize these but it will be much easier to privatize if they are profitable and almost impossible if they are Running in Red .Am i right to assume that Most work force in these plants are Unionized ?

Two things india will never privatize army and railways. Haan it may privatize the other operations of railways but not the running of the railways itself.India knows railways being strategic asset provides cheapest mode of transport for it public.

on the side note........................

Railways keen on using Kaveri engines developed by DRDO: Parliamentary Committee

NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways has shown keen interest in the Kaveri engine, which is being developed for fighter aircraft, to power its trains, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has told a Parliamentary Committee.

"A request has come from the Indian Railways to know that whether Kaveri engines can be used for powering locomotives," DRDO told the Standing Committee on Defence.

In its report tabled in Parliament last week, the Committee said the DRDO has plans of producing Kaveri engine in large number in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

DRDO officials told PTI that the Railways were showing keen interest in the programme as gas-turbine engines were the best and most fuel efficient.

"Though the engine is being developed for fighter aircraft, it can also be used on other platforms such as ships and heavy vehicles," they said.

Kaveri engine is being developed for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and for the future ventures of the DRDO in the field of aeronautics at its Bangalore-based lab Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GRTE).

The engine recently successfully completed its first test-bed flight test in Russia and has completed other stages of development, including component testing, safety tests, ground based and endurance tests.

The engine has been put through a series of more such tests both in Russia and GTRE facility to prove its reliability, airworthiness and safety.

In the last two decades, DRDO has has spent close to USD 455 million on development of the Kaveri engine.

The indigenous fighter aircraft engine programme was first started in 1986 but suffered delays and cost over-runs due to the technology denial regimes in the 90s.
Any progress on this front.......?

Kaveri engine for trains?

joke of the day really

Kaveri not used in one defense program but playing part in strategic assets like Railways, I think it is worth mentioning. AJTR is right.

We should try to build our own locomotives and engine can be from Germany or like MTU an do a JV with HMC and PMTF to manufacture engines in Pakistan with Quality Assurance Engineers from Germany and then we might be able to build trucks and buses of our own with German Engines on board along with their usage in Military and Civilian Ships and on other platforms too.

Privatization will never happen but private partnership and investment.

For the help for some one who does not have idea about WAP 5 or WDM 2 stands for :

The first letter (gauge)

W-Indian broad gauge (The "W" Stands for Wide Gauge - 5 Feet 6 inches)
Y-metre gauge (The "Y" stands for Yard Gauge - 3 Feet or 1000mm)
Z-narrow gauge(2 ft 6 in)
N-narrow gauge (2 ft)

The second letter (motive power)

D-Diesel
C-DC electric (can run under DC traction only)
A-AC electric (can run under AC traction only)
CA-Both DC and AC (can run under both AC and DC tractions), 'CA' is considered a single letter
B-Battery electric locomotive (rare)

The third letter (job type)

G-goods
P-passenger
M-mixed; both goods and passenger
S-Used for shunting (Also known as switching engines or switchers in United states and some other countries)
U-Electric multiple units (used as commuters in city suburbs)
R-Railcars

For example, in "WDM 3A":

"W" means broad gauge
"D" means diesel motive power
"M" means suitable for mixed(for both goods and passenger)service
"3A" means the locomotive's power is 3,100 hp ('3' stands for 3000 hp, 'A' denotes 100 hp more)

Or, in "WAP 5":

"W" means broad gauge
"A" mean AC electric traction motive power
"P" means suitable for Passenger service
"5" denotes that this locomotive is chronologically the fifth electric locomotive model used by the railways for passenger service.

with ministry of railways with congress party, we can expect a price rise in railway fare which will benefit railways economical structure. Its high time for price rise.

Any further News about the Deal or When locomotives are coming to Pakistan
