Electronics, electrical, IoT and home appliance products manufacturer Walton is going to inaugurate its first computer manufacturing factory in Chandra of Gazipur this month targeting monthly production of 60,000 unit laptops, 30,000 desktops and more than 30,000 unit monitors. With the inauguration on January 18, local customers would certainly be hoping to get 'Made in Bangladesh' labelled tech products at affordable prices.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar along with State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak will inaugurate the Walton computer manufacturing factory.
Sources said, equipped with latest machineries from Japan and Germany, trail production has already begun at Walton Digi-Tech industries Ltd. with separate departments for computer and laptop designing, research and development, quality control and testing lab creating employment for nearly 1000 people.
The local brand focuses to expand its production capacity and will go for manufacturing of other computer accessories including pen drive, keyboard and mouse soon.
Meanwhile, Uday Hakim, Senior Operative Director of Walton, said: Walton has taken various dream initiatives to save foreign currency and make the best use of our internal human resources for which we launched the country's first ever mobile phone plant last year. Now we are going to start computer production plant with plan to go for manufacturing of other ICT and IoT devices.
He hoped that the newly built Walton Computer Factory will cut the import dependency of the sector along with creating scopes of various backward linkage industries including hardware and software. According to him, the launching of this computer plant is going to be a milestone for the development of hi-tech industries in Bangladesh.
