Wah-Cantt

Wah-Cantt is famous for these reasons :-

1. It has the highest literacy rate in Pakistan (99%). You will hardly find anyone in Wah-Cantt who can't read or write.

2. It the cleanest city of Pakistan, after Islamabad.

3. Not everyone can enter this place. It is place of Wah Ordinance Factories which produce conventional defensive ammunitions. The place is surrounded by check posts and you need a PASS to enter this place.

It is a surrounded by Margalla Hills on everyside.. and it is 50 km to the North West of Islamabad.

It is very close to the ancient City of Taxila... and the Historical Sikh City Hasan Abdal.

Wah means "WOW" in English. Thats how this place got its name :-

"The name 'Wah' has its roots in the Mughal era with the Mughal emperor Jehangir reported to have coined the name when his army was stationed here en route from a mission. Emperor Jehangir was impressed by the scenery of this place, so he said "Wah" ('wow') and this place was named 'Wah' after that exclamation. It is said that Mughal emperor Jehangir’s army was coming back from a campaign in Kashmir, it was evening time, and they were tired and looking for a place to stay. After a little search they were successful in finding a place with a natural source of water. As soon as the Mughal King watched the natural beauty of the spring and surrounding mountains, he loudly exclaimed ”Wah!”. His words were written on the stone of history. Since that day, this territory is called Wah. The Mughal advent had a strong influence on the architecture of the city which is still visible to date with prominent Mughal sites like the Wah Gardens."

Wah used to be very beautiful... a valley surrounded by Margalla Mountains, forests, springs, historical sites etc...It used to have a lovely view when clouds used to touch mountains.. and when it used to hail and snow... But I have heard it is not the same anymore...

They are destroying the Margalla mountains and converting them to produce concrete... destroying the natural beauty of this place... :disagree::disagree:

Who is MMS?

I used to visit there often when my Bro was on house job in wah hospital. Nice place indeed. Lot of greenery.

And by the way the bus you see in on of the pics....You can travel in 3 Rs from one end of the city to another.

I'm from Wah Cantt as well! I think that makes three people from there on this forum. Surprisingly, though, the other two are girls.

This is what I said to my Nani Ammi (grandma) when she asked which city I liked better:
Lahore, Lahore ay
Magar Wah di te gal hi kuch aur ay!

I remember coming back from Rawalpindi once, I didn't know the number of the wagon to take to get home. All I remembered is that it was called "Basti, baroon baar"

Basti as well. I forget the name of the area, but it's close to the graveyard, a Masjid and a Park. There is a bus-route that goes from Hospital straight to the Graveyard, I always found that disturbingly funny. "Haspatal se Qabristan", what a hilarious name for a bus-route.

I have many friends in Wah. and one of them lives in Basti
Tell me his first name, maybe I know him.
