Vivo Has Officially Started Making Phones in Pakistan

Chinese tech giant Vivo has officially started producing Smartphones in Pakistan. The brand has announced its first batch of smartphones produced in Pakistan, though we are yet to see which phones these are going to be.

As seen in the image above, Vivo has also unveiled some of the key highlights of its Smartphone production in Pakistan. There is currently a demand for 32 million phones in Pakistan and a total of $1 billion in spending on imports.

At the time of writing, Vivo has a total of 29 PTA approved facilities, out of which 17 are operational, and 3 of them are smartphone assemblers. These stats have been obtained from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The company has also teased that more brands will follow suit soon but has not named any brands. We have previously heard reports on Oppo and Samsung looking to establish local production in the country, but there is no official news on that as of yet.
Smartphones have always been overpriced in Pakistan, but following this development, we can finally expect to see smartphones costing the same as their official prices. We expect to hear more from Vivo soon.

These are total approved facilities not vivo facilities. Correct interpretation is that there are 29 facilities approved by pta of which 17 are working and these are operated by 3 assemblers.

Three More Companies to Start Making Mobile Phones in Pakistan

Following the relaxation in withholding taxes, three companies have decided to set up manufacturing units in Pakistan and begin locally producing Mobile phones.

According to a senior official of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), three new entrants — Vivo, Airlink, and Advance Telecom — have applied to establish production units in Pakistan, and require approvals from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) for them.

“Vivo plans to set up its unit in Faisalabad, Airlink has applied for a unit in Lahore, whereas Advance Telecom wants to establish one in Karachi,” the official revealed.
The official remarked that the EDB is the policy secretariat for locally manufacturing Mobile Phones in Pakistan.
An ordinance to abolish the withholding tax on locally manufactured phones was recently promulgated by the government in order to facilitate the assembling and production of mobile parts in Pakistan. This step was highly appreciated by investors.


Amir Allahwala, the Chief Executive of a company that manufactures Infinix and Techno mobile sets said, “Now, after the tax relaxation, there is a difference of around Rs. 1,900 per set between a locally assembled mobile phone and an imported one with a value of $100”.

Vivo is a very innovative brand. I have used their Vivo Nex (Pro/S forgot the full name) phone when it was first launched. They always want to try something new and often introduces features that are adopted by major brands after 1-2 years.

I think local manufacturing of Vivo products will help bring a lot of technology in mobile industry of Pakistan so I will be very keen to see what phones they will be manufacturing in Pakistan.
