Viral video: Google ad connects India-Pak with heartwarming reunion story

. . .
Pakistan would agree to re-union with India, if India changes it's name to PAKISTAN.
never...it can name itself as "Akhand Bharat" or Naya Bharat or Indiastan..but it should also include bangladesh, nepal, burma and srilanka..so there is no issue of PM visiting srilanka etc..

Leave us out of that....we are not interested!

. .
on what basis?
That is how the media works.. it doesnt tell you that it has happened...it leaves something at end that suggests something and then asks you "What do you think?"

For e.g. at the end of Dil tu Pagal hai.. When SRK makes it with madhuri.. we have the character of Akshay Kumar asking Karishma if she is married or not.. Now we know that there is no mention of a relationship being formed between them.. but the question is left there and you are asked "what do you think?". The same way, the Grandson of the Pakistani passes some half sheepish looks at the granddaughter of the Indian.. and you left to ask.. "What do you think?"

seems it has been copied from some pakistani team who had created original video.

Hey @Oscar that is an unusual take ! Though I did see that; I really did not look too hard at it; thought that it was rather corny to start with.

In the context of the Ad. itself and some of the more obtuse comments that figured here; I must say that while 'Reunion' was woven into the film, it had nothing to with 'Reunion of two Countries etc'. The idea of the 'Reunion of two long separated friends' was the theme but to convey the "hook" or central theme that Google Search facilitated it, or made it happen. That was the really clever bit of the film-making. Creativity can work at so many levels and in so many ways.

As for those threatened by the idea of two countries re-uniting or some "Akhand Bharat" being formed; that is simply idiotic in the extreme. As if the two long lost friends will stand together on the threshhold of a door in Delhi and say that they want to become brothers.
Wiser and easier to hope to be friends or at the very least; peaceful neigbors leading their own lives.
Just as Yusuf and his childhood friend must have gone back their own lives after having met following the hiatus.

But you and I know that it is unlikely to happen. Those lost at the LoC in senseless tit for tat firing will testify to it, those lost in 26/11 will testify to it..and those lost in the blasts of the 90's in Pakistan will testify to it..and so on and so forth.

The simple fact remains, it is this rivalry that has come to define the nations. People consider us a nuclear flashpoint..and perhaps the most dangerous one. When the British and the French bayed for each others blood there was still different languages in the middle... Here, men on both sides yell expletives at each other and understand it well.

When people question hatred of other countries they cite things such as "not knowing who the enemy is".. in this case.. the enemy is very well known... their culture is well known...their cuisine is well known!. Sure sometimes I have experienced Indians down south having a culture shock at finding out what is common between us.. but the ones in the north are well aware that they are looking at someone who was a neighbour. And when you know who is on the other side.. and still you choose to hate them..
well, that is not something that is quenchable or resolvable by words or minor deeds alone.

Some time ago a lady called @bronxbull mentioned in a thread that she had been to a place called danishmandan. This was the place where my ancestors lived for over 500 years. The centuries old graves were reminders of a different era. The last time I visited, there were no graves and no graveyards. Modern houses were built on those graves and @bonxbull stayed in one of those houses. I asked her to say hello to the spirits of my ancestors roaming around in those houses.

How many such people shown in the clip, who were born in British India remain, and how long will they remain. How many of those who were born after independence of Pakistan, have seen India and how many Indians have seen Pakistan. Not many. For me India is a different country. I have been to India on many many occasions and disagree with all those who state that we are the same people. Except for some similarities in spoken language, nothing else is common. Our cultural ethos is different, our way of living is different, our looks are totally different and we even think differently. And the most interesting part is that we were a different people since thousands of years except for limited periods during the Mauryan, Muslim and British rules.

Even the Indian Muslims are different. They wear skull caps most of the time and these days I do not see many even in the mosques wearing caps in Pakistan. Whenever I would meet someone in India, they would greet me with “Adaab.” I did not know how to reply to them as no one in Pakistan greets with an Adaab, atleast I don’t know any. I still don’t understand why could not they say hello.

The union which the Indians seek is because they think that Pakistan was part of India and should not have seceded from the union. They get angry that they could not create the Rashtra many of them dreamed about and that is why discussion about partition and creation of Pakistan is such a talked about issue in India. Yet, many of them say, oh we are not obsessed about Pakistan because it is not an issue any longer. Despite the newfound and unfounded comparisons with China, Pakistan never goes out of the earshot and India’s growth generally ends in slighting Pakistan. This despite the fact that the receding Indian GDP growth is almost comparable to Pakistani growth these days.

The Pakistanis as they are growing up, have started understanding their separate identity which is imbued in history. And also because they re-created and re-enacted the Meluhha who existed as a separate entity for thousands of years on a land which is now named Pakistan. The interest with India in Pakistan is primarily due to the fact that after having remained unified under the Muslim and British rules, most Pakistanis have not even seen India which remains an enigma.

Interestingly, most Pakistanis who go to India, come back unimpressed and most Indians who visit Pakistan are comparatively impressed by the progress they see, as against what the Indian press tells them about how bad Pakistan is.

Probably more interaction may increase our understanding of each other, or may result in enhanced acrimony, when we actually understand what the other side truly represents.

Hi,

I think similar of different, regardless of views, the 3 countries exist now and how friendly or hostile one should be is a decision to be taken by their governments and people.

I feel Pakistanis should be able to visit India and we should be able to visit Pakistan, atleast some of us.

And this story is only between baldev and yusuf, quite nice and simple.

True that ! It will take time ratchet down if at all. But will need more awareness probably to happen. But according to me; if there is a quick fix towards that (Can there EVER BE A QUICK-FIX at all?) happening; it can only be increased Prosperity! Now that may sound frightfully absurd to you. But I think that when people have something to lose, then they become cautious. We haven't got enough to lose yet; so we are willing to pursue Chimera thinking that we have something to gain.

About the French and the British; the fact that they are so different probably pitched them at each others throats and then separated them; but I've not thought through that yet.

About this North-South differences; it shows up in peculiar ways. I remember arguing once with somebody (from the Thakeray family) in Western India who was arguing stridently on these issues. Then I had to tell him that his family had no proximity to what happened in 1947, had not lost a farthing in all the roiling; had not lost any family or friends in the mayhem---WTF had he to talk about? While my Mother whose family had lost all of those things remained without any rancor to the point of being blase. The conversation did not continue much longer after that.

So the words and minor deeds have to continue in whatever way or amount that can be sustained; while we still try to discover what can be lost !

This is bizarre. It's bizarre cause Hindus from India are stalking Pakistanis over the Internet. Indians are obsessed with Pakistan, and spend a good time stalking them on the Internet. This ad caters to demography of Indians with their obsessive compulsive disorder over Pakistan. Now google has made their obsession much easier.

Just look at this site. Indians spend more time in Pakistani forums, then their own....

I guess google knows how much time Indians spend obsessively searching for Pakistan over the Internet, so they are just catering to their demography.
