Vinfast one step closer to produce cars

How is going to work? Who are the owners of current factories? You mean those factories will produce Japan branded cars at dayshift and will produce Asean cars at night shift? All 4 countries have no technology and will import everything from zero.

People need stark imagination.
Lol, what it means are those componet came from the same factory that produces japanese cars component, indonesia have 2000 factory that produce sparepart and component, from coil, battery, windshield, piston, engine block, spring etc, it will be assembly in its own assembly plant, today Indonesian automotive industry already make 80% of component that joint indonesia-japan car company produce in indonesia(all japan, germany, korean etc car brand in Indonesia are a joint investment between indonesian company and the brand owner of the cars), the domestic componen of daihatsu and suzuki even reach 90-95%

If proton is excluded I haven’t heard of any own brands from Indonesia and Thailand. VN imports JP made cars from Thailand and Indo but time is running out. This year VN car import is down 75 % because Vietnamese people participate the arrival of VN own brands, plus the restriction of car import introduced by VN government makes all importers extremely difficult to sell cars to VN customers.

So if you successfully constructs a Asean car, the chance to sell it to VN is zero.

Much to do with your red tape compared with the rising of Vietnamese brand car (in which today still zleich or nein case)

Car imports crawl into Vietnam in Q1: report

Foreign firms are trying to get past the red tape laid down by Vietnams government
Vietnams car imports in the first quarter fell six times compared to the same time last year, according to authorities.

Only 4,217 new imported cars entered the country in the first quarter, accounting for 15.9 percent of the 26,366 cars imported in the first three months of 2017, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Car importers said that the slowdown was due to a decree issued by the government at the beginning of the year that requires importers to provide valid vehicle type approval certificates issued by authorities from the countries of origin, along with quality control and assurance certificates.

As a result, importers in Vietnam do not have enough cars to meet the demand. Having sold its last 38 Toyota Fortuners at the end of January, Toyota Vietnam said it is waiting for more cars to be manufactured, which won’t be imported until June at the earliest.

Some companies have actually managed to get through the difficulties. Ford imported a large shipment before the decree came into effect, and Honda was the first brand to complete the documents necessary to import over 2,000 cars in early March.

Despite the bleak outlook for car imports in the first quarter, assembled cars have increased in sales by 8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Experts believe that it will take months before the car import market stabilizes.

Nonsense. The motivation behind Vietnam bringing car imports to a standstill is to protect domestic car makers. Indonesia government plays the same card with rising economic nationalism with import restrictions or as seen in the case of Freeport.

Red tap yes, import declines no. Vietnam expectedly imports $250 billion worth of goods and services this year. That sum is more than of Indonesia :-)
