Views of ex-COAS on army’s ‘combat worthiness’ quoted ‘out of context’: ISPR

Why does it matter what Bajwa says ?
He is done and dusted. He can say that army can’t fight, will India or enemies of Pakistan take him seriously. The intel of both countries keeps close tabs on each others status for war. You want to score brownie points by undermining Bajwa somehow, go ahead and carve out 5 more points against him if that helps restore peace inside you. Get out of small mind thinking or rather stay in it.

My inquisition about his statement stem from his pointing towards India and not TTP unless it’s taken in literal meaning. Secondly drying up LOC. would that be a legitimate reason to focus on western front. Would PA be required to focus on western front when FC and other LEAs are present. Or would PA focus be Chinese preference to protect CPEC routes/areas where other LEAs under perform.

PA won’t go fully light in weaponry and formations. The terrain, strategy, tactics and doctrine doesn’t allow it. Still airborne forces should be increased.
Bajwa was COAS of world one the biggest army, whose men deployed around the world under UN missions. And all Pak-Indian joint UN missions should be stopped, Bajwa got influenced by Indian military men during his foreign deployment. Sign of an extremely weak personality. Fail to understand why Raheel Sharif gave him sword ........

MBT 2000 tank engine ? .... Russian/Ukrainian origin?

Well, the Indian fleet is a maintenance nightmare and lacks of crew training.
1st AD should get VT-4 due to commonality but let’s see.

Get Bajwa out of your head.

Army moving towards COIN ops again should be of concern.

I won’t get into the political aspects of this, but to sum up my opinions in regards to the technical stuff. Yes, PAs armored fleet is in significant trouble right now, that has been apparent for years due to Ukraines declining industry and the lack of development of our own.

There’s a reason half the AK1 orders were canceled in favor of VT4, why Pakistan has been trying to put Chinese ERA and power packs into AKs, why Pakistan got ToT for VT4 etc. because they realized a few years back that all reliance on Ukraine was a death trap.

And while some significant progress was made to indigenize the parts imported from Ukraine (The entire FCS, GCS, auto-loader and dozens of other spare parts of the UD and AK series previously imported from Ukraine were localized by HIT and CARE), it wasn’t good enough, because we simply don’t have the technology to make powerpacks and are still totally reliant on Ukraine for those (our own fault for never developing industry).

So unless PA finds another solution, all tanks with Ukrainian engines and transmissions are running on borrowed time. This was all very clear before the war, but the war accelerated this issue in a way the PA wasn’t prepared for at all.

The long term solution is to replace everything with VT4s and Chinese components, everything in the AK included, but to extend this to AZ and UDs is likely too difficult, and PA might have to retire and downsize it’s fleet if HIT isn’t able to finish the aforementioned alternatives or if there’s a lack of funds (which there is).

On the other hand, the Indian tank fleet has also been significantly impacted, but because of the other side of the coin, Russia refusing to supply parts and tanks to fund its own war, and India also failed to fully indigenize their tanks, so both armies are not doing too well, particularly when it comes to armor.

I guess what you could take away from this is, Bajwa absolutely meant what he said. Why he said it, especially to the enemy, at such a time and in such a way, is not for me to comment on, all I can say is, regardless of your affinity for the forces, they’re the ones getting f*cked by his statement the most.

Given how unlikely a war between the two nations is though, regardless of all the warmongering, I think the bigger issue with Pakistans forces, and the country as a whole, is still all that’s going on inside it right now, and not the fact that we don’t have the right oil for our tanks. Our tanks are of no use with or without the right oil if we’re too busy fighting ourselves.

This main battle tank is fitted with an indigenous turbocharged diesel engine, developing 1 300 hp. Sometimes it is referred as the "Type 150". Some sources report that it is a modified and uprated version of the British Perkins CV12-1200 TCA, which is used on the British Challenger 1 and Challenger 2 main battle tanks. This new tank engine is produced in China. For a number of year Chinese export tanks were fitted with engines supplied from Ukraine. However eventually China went on its own in tank engine production. The VT4 has a raised engine compartment. Interestingly the PLA's Type 99G is powered by a more powerful engine, developing 1 500 hp, and is more agile. Engine of the VT4 is mated to an automatic gearbox. This main battle tank has a deep fording capability. Auxiliary fuel tanks can be fitted for extended range.

UD can go for a Chinese engine ? ... @Deino you too......

LMAO... They just confirmed this by issuing denial. How hard was to keep their mouth shut?

VERY 👇
They could have simply denied and said the usual stuff but no.

Technically you can put any engine in the UD or AK as long as there’s space. it’s not a complicated task for HIT. The question is weather it’s economically feasible. And the answer is no. Because before any of that, they’d have to put Chinese engines in the entire AK fleet, and then the UD fleet. To preserve commonality, they’d need to modify the engine bays (make them bigger), because the Chinese engines in the VT4 and 99A are too big. They could use smaller engines, but then you’d be going down on HP.
So I don’t think a Chinese engine in UD fleet is a good answer, not with the limited funds we have. The first step would be to get said Chinese engines into AK. Something HIT is actively working on, it remains to be seen wether they succeed.

The real issue here is the transmission, the AK/UD transmission is extremely complex, there’s a single guy in the entire country who’s qualified to work on it, it’s that complicated. Replacing it without significantly compromising the performance of the tanks in a cost effective manner is a challenge.

Otherwise if PA had enough money, they could easily have a Chinese engine and transmission to put in every one of its tanks.

Not necessarily 1300 HP. VT4s engine can produce 1100-1400HP depending on fuel mixture and tune. Thai VT4s are tuned to 1300HP. Ours are tuned to 1200HP, but that can be changed in field conditions.
The engines name is HB150 and it is not a version of the CV-12, rather it is German derived. It is similar to Leo 2 engine which was sold to China under license . This much is well known.

The Chinese import tanks with Ukrainian engines being mentioned here is the VT1, that means Al-Khalid.

ZTZ-99A (not G, although both are unofficial designations) uses just another version of the same engine in VT4, tuned to 1500HP. And is not necessarily more agile than the VT4, owning to its greater weight. Transmissions are also similar.

Well, engine bay modification is the name of the game, when UD parked for parts.
