What's new

VietTel installs nationwide 4G network in just 6 months

The telecom Industry in India is in heavy competition and consolidation phase right now with mergers of 20B$ happening in last 6 months, therefore the price. the price is expected to stabilise around 50 cents a Gb in the long run.
50 cents for 1 GB are still very cheap. Vodafone demands additional $10 in Germany if your limit is reached. Fcking expensive.

.
It may be run by the military but it operates professionally.

Vietell's 3G network was buillt by Huawei for example:
https://www.telegeography.com/produ...009/05/29/huawei-to-build-viettel-3g-network/

Similarly, these are extremely complex instruments a lot of which simply can't be produced by taking them apart and learning. They require decades of research.

A lot of the components for the telecom networks require facilities and competencies that aren't simply present yet in Vietnam.

No it is not.

Right now there is a price war going on to gain customers in India, initiated by Reliance Jio.

Reliance is said to have spent 30 billion dollars or so in this venture, with very low revenues right now, leave alone profits.

On the other hand Chinese vendors are all profitable.

Cisco doesn't even sell wireless networks like 4G etc.

Today 4G can be bought mainly from Huawei/Ericcson/Nokia and I am not sure, but some say Samsung.

Cisco provides switches, routers, servers, interconnects, etc.
I said network builder. The hardware was mostly sourced by samsung.

https://newsroom.cisco.com/press-release-content?articleId=1826139

And even after the price war the prices are expected to settle around 50 cents a GB or at most 75 cents. And that is very cheap by todays standards. And every major rating firm has claimed that JIO willl become profitable before the end of next fiscal in EDBITA terms.

Indian telecom market has been extremely competitive for the last two decades and that has not stopped expansion and up gradation to new technologies. And secondly all incumbent operators except the new entrant are profiltable. There bottom lines have taken a hit due to competition but they are still profitable.

VietTel is a private run company but belongs to Vietnam People's Army. Do you think the company will use Chinese equipment? No, we aren't naive. Big problem if the Chinese gain access to our networks and we don't know it. VietTel and other major Vietnamese telecom companies buy few devices from the Chinese and other countries, disassemble, study their functions and make all devices by ourselves. Maybe some uncritical components will be bought. But we even produce glas fiber cables.

Pls feel free to ask Vietnam if India wants 4G. We can build it cheaper for you than the Chinese.

VietTel will build 3G/4G for Burma in 12 months, covering 60 pct of the population.
LOL.

Right now, VietTel import 100% of components from foreign suppliers, including our own. Just because you import the chip, the network, connector, and assemble them together doesn't mean you fully master the technology. ANd VietTel just start the 4G revolution while we are the step leap in the pioneering 5G network. We don't just build it. We design and will license it to telecom like VietTel.

Good news for Huawei and likes, big businesses in vietnam and india.
Huawei's overseas revenue is going crazy.

We already have nationwide 4G. Atleast 3 operators covering most of India each and one literally covering entire India. The latter named JIO has been running completely free for the last 6 month and it provides good speeds(Avg 17Mbps). Data prices in India have crashed heavily this year with data price down to almost 10 cents a for a GB of 4G data. :-)

You do realise that we have nationwide 4G coverage for some time now and i believe its much cheaper in India than in China.

It's a long way before India claim a national 4G network,

Having 4G in limited cities is not national.
As far as I know, the number of india's 4G users are still tiny.

You might want to look into the JIO network. It network covers 90 pc of our population at good speeds.

Will Viettel make 4G infrastructure equipment with Chinese chips?

NOVEMBER 17, 2016

VietNamNet Bridge – If Viettel uses Chinese components to make 4G broadcasting equipment, there will be latent risks in information security, scientists say.

20161116123506-scitech-viettel.jpg

Viettel has received a license to set up a public telecom network and provide standard terrestrial telecom services based on LTE-Advanced (4G) technology.

The military telecom group has also promised to promote broadband mobile services among Vietnamese consumers with infrastructure equipment and 4G core network to be produced by Viettel.

Unlike the other networks, Viettel tries to make telecom equipment, saying that 70 percent of its telecom infrastructure items would be designed and manufactured by Viettel by 2020.

The group said that all of its components, from core network (vOCS, MSC, EPC, IMS), transmission network (Site Router) to access network (eNodeB) will not rely on any suppliers. From 2018, Viettel will replace all imported core network components with the company’s products.

If Viettel uses Chinese components to make 4G broadcasting equipment, there will be latent risks in information security
However, analysts doubt that Viettel can make equipment. In the past, Viettel launched into the market some mobile phone models, such as Viettel V8403, V8404 and V8502.

However, these were not made by Viettel. The products were outsourced by Viettel to Chinese manufacturers and then labeled them as Viettel’s products.

Meanwhile, Viettel’s 3G USB models were also suspected as being provided by Chinese manufacturers – Huawei and ZTE.

Ngo Duc Hoang, director of ICDREC (Integrated Circuit Design Research & Education Center) which is well known for microchips, thinks that Viettel won’t use Vietnam-made chips, but foreign-made chips, though he said that even if this is true, this will still be an encouraging result of Vietnam’s electronics industry.

According to Hoang, there are different levels for ‘mastering technology’. If someone designs a product, then buys separate chips and components from different manufacturers, and assembles in accordance with their own design and runs the product with homemade software, this will be ‘mastering of technology at equipment level’.

At a higher level of mastering technology, a person would be able to make chips and equipment and run the product as designed.

An expert who asked to be anonymous said he believes Viettel is capable of mastering technology at the equipment level, if it has strong determination.

However, he warned that if Viettel uses Chinese 4G broadcasting equipment, there will still be risks in information security. Using Vietnam-made chips is an ideal scenario.

However, he admitted that this is not feasible in the current conditions of Vietnam. Therefore, Vietnam’s design and software are the two most important factors that a product must have to be recognized as a Vietnam product.

To date, the three largest mobile network operators – Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone – have a license to provide 4G services.

You might want to look into the JIO network. It network covers 90 pc of our population at good speeds.

Comparing to China, India's 4G market is still quite small.

http://www.telecomlead.com/4g-lte/china-770-mn-4g-users-india-will-celebrate-100-mn-74501

The official figure revealed by Reliance Jio Infocomm, which has all-India presence in the 4G market, is 72 million. TRAI in its latest report also revealed that Jio has 72 million 4G subscribers. TRAI does not reveal specific 4G subscriber number of Indian telecom operators.

China's 770 million 4G users by the end of 2016, account for 58 percent of all the country's mobile phone users. The fact that India’s 100 million 4G users will be just less than 10 percent of its total mobile subscriber base indicates about a huge growth opportunity for 4G operators in India.

. . .
Was the last year story about quality of telecom service in India, where even in New Delhi, mobiphone can get signal in some corners of the house only, fake or true.

The story came from an Western source, so I doubt about its reliability. However, it looked like not all were lies.

Ignorant people tend to claim 4g in cities = a nationwide network.
It seems that only people in the city are people there where the urbanisation rate is hilariously low.
How about hundreds of townships and villages? Villagers are not people?
We have 4G signal at Mount Everest Base Camp, but in a country where villagers are secondary citizens, ultranationalists there lack basic understanding of their own country's abysmal situation.

Its barely been a 6 months since a nationwide operator release. Any way my commeny was a reply to a ignorant chinese claiming we dont have nationwide 4g.

This JIO network looks promising. I think AndrewJin took issue with your statement "It network covers 90 pc of our population at good speeds" which is certainly untrue by any measure. That means 1billion Indians on 4G. Reliance have already confirmed that the figure is 72 million. Calling someone who points out your misquote as ignorant is not helpful.

It might have been a misinterpretation issue. My statement was to prove that it is a national network and it means that it provides coverage in areas that host 90pc of India's population, not that it provides services to 90pc of India's population.

I see the question mark, you too?

Anyway I think we can't make everything until the last screw. You should be happy when we import stuffs from China.
