It just is a little island, why we must push Japan to get it, for us keeping it disputed to Japan is very useful. A war held near our countries in Asia is what your westerner want to see, i dont think Japanese cant understand it(if Abe is not too stupid). For us to keep enough forces in SCS can make us keep Japan's throat in hands and fill in the strategic vacuum caused by the recession of US in the region. Our navy havent surpassed the JMSDF too much, so that you can see the Japanese jumping up and down. But our tonnage of ships launched by PLA Navy is far larger than JMSDF. So it just need take another several years for us to keep the Japanese quiet.
