At the current growth rate, Vietnam’s GDP in 2045 is set to reach US$2.5 trillion with per capita income of US$18,000, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said during a speech yesterday in front of the National Assembly.

Vietnam needs higher growth rate. With 2 or 3 percent points more, the projected GDP will reach within 15 years.

It assumes Vietnam will have a population of 138m in 2045. AFAIK, Vietnam has 90m+ people today and has a TFR of 1.9, slightly below replacement rate.

That's very ambitious. Even China's largest province Guangdong with 100m+ people only has a GDP of US$1.3 trillion today. Guangdong has 2 out of the 4 first-tier cities (Shenzhen and Guangzhou) where the top talents and enterprises of China concentrate, and it's right next to HK which facilitated the diffusion of skills and knowledge across the border through investments and trade. Guangdong is also the investment destination of many Overseas Chinese which speed up development.

But I wish you luck.

they have to hurry up 26 years is alot. could they reach 1.5 trillion in 10 years cuz that would be amazing.

thats noy easy if we can not unify sub mekong region and take it as safe heaven.

Look at CN, her growth rely too.much on export to US and its allies, when US slap sanction on CN, then CN economy falling like a leaf.

I am bit of puzzled on how Vietnam can be 2.5 trillions in 26 years. based on the current growth rate of 7% (it has been growing like 6.5%ish in the recent quarters), 26 years would be 5.80 times. Multiplying it with current GDP of 242b USD gives us 1.40t USD. Where does the rest 1.1t come from?

So, please, Vietnam to stop all the exports to China, to see how much you export to China every year.
Poor Vietnamese
Every day, large Numbers of Vietnamese farmers cross the border into China to sell their produce.
Is this Vietnam?

Millions of Chinese? Come on, there is an ocean, ocean , you know ocean? between us and Japan, learn some geography. lol, the real story is millions of Vietnese beg for Chinese for dirty jobs, our policemen are very busy and tired of catching illegal Viets.
It is impossible for Vietnam to become rich, there is not any successful factors for this country. It will be a MIRACLE if Vietnam surpass Thailand. For reaching 2 trillion, lol, daydreamer.

Unrealistic goal

I'd be surprised if Vietnam could hit a trillion, considering the wealthiest province in China couldn't crack 2 trillion. That's also assuming Vietnam doesn't fall into the middle income trap and maintain the same growth rate for the next 30 years.
