On January 19, 2011, the Information Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China published a “facts-and-figures” article on the China’s seizure of the Viet Nam’sParacel Islands. The article wrote “On January 19, 1974, our (Chinese) armed forces and people on the Xisha Islands successfully conducted a counter-attack for the purpose of self-defence and sovereignty protection against the South Vietnamese puppet armed forces, which had been continuously violating our territorial waters and airspace, occupying our islands, and killing and injuring our fishermen.”
