Vietnam to purchase Russian COVID-19 vaccine

HANOI, August 14. /TASS/. Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has applied for the purchase of the Russian-made coronavirus vaccine, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said on Friday at a meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

According to the acting minister, Vietnam plans to order from 50 to 150 million doses of the vaccine from Russia. There is no information on the dates for the delivery yet.

The participants in the meeting also noted that Vietnam continued to develop its own COVID-19 vaccine. Two of its prototypes created by local companies will be sent to the United States for clinical trials soon.

On August 11, Russia registered the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine named Sputnik V. The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, and its clinical trials were successfully completed in June-July. Some other drugs were created on the platform, which is the basis for Russia’s coronavirus vaccine.

However, the vaccine, named "Sputnik V" in homage to the world's first satellite launched by the Soviet Union, has not yet completed its phase-three trial, which involves wide-scale testing with thousands of participants.

Official Russian report mentions, the vaccine was tested on just 38 people only.

And moreover ,it never passed any significant trials to prove its reliability,safety and effectiveness according to the report.

We registered to buy vaccines from Russia. Certainly without saying we will only buy it if the vaccine proves affective after intensive clinical trials. We have vaccines under development however time is precious it takes at least one more year.

Putin says the vaccine is going thru all 3 required testing phases although it’s not complete yet. Why are you so suspicious? Are you not a friend of Russia? Vietnam shows interest in buying because we want to learn the technology. We would certainly not buy the vaccine if it is not proven it’s affectiveness. We are not dumb.

Something Russia counterpart not able to match. China is not rushed to put the vaccine for public sales but more effort to ensure this vaccine works and safe before making any decision.

You don’t understand.
Putin says the vaccine is “registered” because it is proven in the effectiveness in the tests. He cites his daughter takes the vaccination. Registered is a formal step for further clinical tests. He never says the vaccine is “approved“. The misunderstanding in the West originated in the translation error.

No longer the case. There is a resurgence of the second virus infection underway, with a deadly strain. We don’t know from where it originated. Some Vietnamese suspect the virus may be brought in by illegal immigrants from a certain country but I think it’s not fair if no evidence.

Tourism is not the problem. reopening the economy is not the cause either.
Undocumented border crossing is the problem. People among them with infection brought the virus back to us.

Not talking about conspiracy? Then why should those people cross the border without documents? Getting a vn visa is so effortless as one of the easiest thing on earth... And why should they go to vn in the first place? For those from China, my guess is #1, as tourists, #2, as technicians for Chinese companies in vn to train vietnamese workers, #3, criminals such as human traffickers, etc... for the first 2, they will have legitimate visa... Then only criminals left here...
