The negative vote from five permanent member of the U.N Security Council is useful for Falkland issue.

There is no chance for Argentina to get back Falkland islands, even if China and Russia vow to support Argentina regime. The UK (backed by the US) is willing to start another war.

Actually I dislike to see the world divided again into blocs like in the Cold War.

It's time to re-promote the Non-Bloc Conference again. Argentina can trade and build relationship to anyone. There should be no pro-China nor pro-US, like the Cold War. I don't understand why English media love to promote such narrative.

Beside Argentina is visiting ASEAN, not just Vietnam. That is a very common thing.

Chinal has several high speed rail connectivities to Asean countries up the way to Singapore, we don't need to build railway though Vietnam, that's advantage for China to have so many neighbors

Argentinean President welcomed in HCM City

(VOV) - Ho Chi Minh City is ready to engender favourable conditions for Argentinean businesses to cooperate on and run direct investments in the city.

HCM City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan issued the statement at a January 19 reception for visiting Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

Quan thanked Argentina for its valuable support and assistance to Vietnam during its struggles for national liberation and national construction. He voiced his confidence that relations between the two nations will flourish and grow after the Argentinean President’s visit.

President Cristina said she hopes her visit will contribute to strengthening cooperative relations, particularly in areas of mutual concern. Argentina is currently developing biotechnology, peaceful atomic technology, healthcare, and agriculture, and desires cooperation with Vietnam in these fields. Argentina is committed to becoming Ho Chi Minh City’s comprehensive partner, she added.

The HCM City leader and the Argentinean President also discussed Argentina’s cooperative opportunities with Vietnam in general and HCM City more specifically—opportunities encompassing energy, biotechnology research, investment, and tourism. They agreed on designating an Argentinean locality HCM City’s twin and promoting business delegation exchanges to encourage investment and collaboration.

President Cristina and her delegation visited the historical site of the Cu Chi Tunnels on the same day.

Ecuador seeks close ties with Vietnam

(VOV) - Ecuador considers Vietnam its strategic partner in Asia, Deputy Foreign Minister Marco Albuja told his host Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi on January 25.

Ecuador wants to boost cooperation in potential areas of agriculture, food security, oil&gas exploitation, telecommunications, and science-technology, Albuja said.

He welcomed Vietnamese businesses to explore and establish cooperation partnerships in this South American nation, and said his government will consider recognising Vietnam’s market economy status. At the political consultation, Minh reaffirmed Vietnam’s desires to develop the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Ecuador.

He said Vietnam is looking forwards to the upcoming visits by top Ecuador leaders and their plan to open a diplomatic representative agency in Hanoi. He assured his guest that Vietnamese ministries, agencies and businesses will work closely with their Ecuador counterparts to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment.

The two diplomats acknowledged positive developments of bilateral relations in recent times and agreed that both sides have great potential for stronger cooperation.

They exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, and agreed to increase coordination and support in international organisations and multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

They said the two countries will cooperate closely at the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) to foster inter-regional cooperation.

Finland development minister eyes co-operation in Da Nang

DA NANG (VNS)— Finnish Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala met with Vice Chairman of Da Nang city People's Committee Phung Tan Viet on Saturday.

The minister said Finnish companies have potential to co-ordinate with Da Nang to increase innovation, reduce poverty and commence business operations in the city and surrounding region. She also hoped that businesses from her country would seek opportunities to co-operate with Viet Nam.

The host welcomed the visit and said he believed it would help bridge Finnish companies towards his city.

He also briefed the Finnish minister and her accompanying business delegation on the links between his city and Salo city in Finland, in particular the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation between the two cities in 2011 and a joint project in Da Nang.

During their stay in the city, the Finnish delegation visited a project sponsored by the Finnish non-governmental organisation Fida International Ry which helps people with disabilities in the city. — VNS



VN signs key legal deal with Cambodia

HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam and Cambodia signed a landmark agreement on mutual legal assistance yesterday in Ha Noi.

Signatories were Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong and his Cambodian counterpart, Ang Vong Vathana, who has been in Viet Nam for a visit from January 21-22. The agreement defines all civil judicial assistance regulations and procedures between Viet Nam and Cambodia.

It creates a legal basis for the two judicial bodies to support each other and ensures the rights of individuals, organisations and businesses from one country that operate in the other.

The two ministers also discussed socio-economic development and law and judicial reforms. Following the signing, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Cambodian Minister of Justice Ang Vong Vathana.

During the meeting, the PM expressed hope that the two ministries would work closely together to implement the agreement.

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos increase transport cooperation

Transport Ministers of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate road transport cooperation.

The MoU, inked during ministers’ meeting in Laos’ southern Pakse Champasak province on Jan. 16-17, will allow vehicles from the three countries to cross their borders.

It will facilitate the transportation of goods and passengers among the three countries, including via sea ports, and boost socio-economic development in each country, especially the development triangle region.-VNA

Pope Benedict XVI received Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong of Vietnam's Communist Party on Tuesday as the Catholic Church seek to develop “fruitful collaboration” with Vietnam, the Vatican said.

The meeting was rare both because the pope usually reserves private audiences for heads of state and because Tuesday is traditionally Benedict's day of rest.

"During cordial talks, themes of interest were touched upon and the hope was expressed that certain unresolved situations can be resolved," the Vatican said in a statement.

Vietnam's some eight million Catholic followers make up less than a tenth of the country’s population. While the Vietnamese government and Holy See do not have full diplomatic relations, ties between the two have been slowly improving, and in January 2011, the Vatican appointed an envoy to Vietnam, though from outside the Holy See's administration.

The Vietnamese delegation of 10 Communist party members, including Secretary General Phu Trong -- also met with the Vatican's powerful number two, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.

(VOV) - Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan on January 28 received Yohei Sasakawa, President of Japan’s Nippon Foundation, on a visit to Vietnam.

Doan welcomed Yohei’s visit as a vivid manifestation of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and thanked the foundation for having supported people with disability, the poor and ethnic children in Vietnam.

Since 1992 the Japanese foundation has provided nearly US$28 million in aid, including US$11 million for people with disability.

The Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship and Cooperation Association (VNFCA) made its debut in Hanoi on January 29, in the presence of Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations Don Tuan Phong, and Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam JoopScheffers.

Ambassador Scheffers spoke highly of Vietnam’s dramatic change from an aid recipient into a trade and investment partner of the Netherlands. He said the two countries will continue realising their leaders’ common conception and expanding cooperation, especially in their potential areas such as maritime transport, and water and energy management.

Crowds of tearful mourners have gathered at the royal palace to welcome the ex-king’s final homecoming and get a glimpse of his coffin.


HANOI, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is going to attend the royal cremation ceremony of the late Cambodian King Father Norodom Sihanouk scheduled on February 4 in Phnom Penh , Vietnamese Government Office online reported.

Together with Nguyen Tan Dung, prime ministers and high-ranking officials from 12 countries are expected to attend the ceremony, including China, Brunei, France, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Sihanouk died of illness at the age of 89 in Beijing on October 15, last year. Over 1 million people are estimated to attend the funeral.

Vietnamese media recently reported in an article about the life of the late Cambodian King that "Norodom Sihanouk is a man of talents, having a life to experience many ups and downs. When alive, Sihanouk was so ebullient, active and amorous,"

Norodom Sihanouk had been trained at French schools in Vietnam' s southern Saigon, or now known as Ho Chi Minh city, and France's Paris.

For ten years, Sihanouk was successful in making Cambodia into a neutral country. However, he began to criticize the United States when the war in Vietnam had been escalated, said the Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper.

Vietnam and Cambodia established diplomatic ties in 1967. Over the years, the Vietnam-Cambodia relations have finely developed in all fields. Vietnam-Cambodia have a border line of 1,137 km with 10 international border gates and 12 national border gates along with favorable river traffic which created favorable conditions for trade between the two countries.

In the period 2001-2011, the Vietnam-Cambodia two-way trade has increased nearly 17 times, from 169 million U.S. dollars to 2.83 billion dollars, with the average growth rate of 23 percent per year. The figure increased to 3.1 billion dollars in 2012, exceed the target of 2.8 billion dollars set by the two governments.

Currently, Cambodia is one of the key markets of Vietnamese exports.
