Peru to open its embassy in Vietnam

(VOV) - The Peruvian Government has decided to open its embassy in Vietnam to promote the friendship, cooperation and political dialogue on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

Its decree published on the March 13 gazette said the dispatch of a diplomatic mission to Vietnam demonstrates Lima’s effort to broaden its relations in politics, diplomacy, economics and trade with southeast Asian countries.

The decree described Vietnam as an important gateway for Peru to expand its business operations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son said a high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) is scheduled to visit Lima later in March. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1994, they have raised their two-way trade turnover in five years to US$180 million in 2012.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Politburo member Le Thanh Hai on March 14 paid a courtesy call to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, affirming that his city always considers India as one of its top partners and investors.

Hai is leading a high-ranking delegation from the city that is in India from March 13 at the invitation of the President of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association, aiming to further increase ties between the two countries, and between the city and Indian localities.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has affirmed that the traditional ties between Vietnam and Poland during the last six decades lay the firm foundation for the two sides to boost cooperation in all fields.

During the talks with Speaker of the Polish Lower House (Sejm) Ewa Kopacz on March 14 in Warsaw, Hung said his visit aims to further strengthen the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries and legislative bodies to open up new prospects for bilateral cooperation.

ACMECS cooperation focuses on three major goals

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has proposed three major goals for the future Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy to ensure sustainable development.

PM Dung and his Cambodian and Thai counterparts, attended the 5th Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (ACMECS 5) on March 13, along with the Myanmar Vice-President and the ASEAN Secretary-General. Lao PM Thongsing Thammavong chaired the meeting.

Vietnam’s total revenue from trade with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand has increased from US$ 10.9 billion in 2011 to US$12.8 billion in 2012.

Vietnamese, German top legislators hold talks

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has affirmed that Vietnam treasures and prioritises the development of cooperation with Germany.

At talks with German NA President Norbert Lammert in Berlin on March 13, Hung thanked the German legislature for supporting the Government in providing official development assistance for Vietnam.

Hung informed the hosts that the Vietnamese NA has set up the Vietnam-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group in which some members of its task force have close ties with the state, serving as a bridge to further promote cooperation with Germany and the Hessen’s parliament.

Mr. Dung was speaking at a meeting with Prodi on Monday who is in Vietnam to attend the 4th ASEAN event series “Bridges – Dialogues Toward a Culture of Peace”. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that with his prestige Mr. Prodi will continue to enhance Vietnam’s relation with Italy and the EU, particularly Vietnam – EU negotiation on a free trade agreement.

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung appreciated the contributions former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair made towards developing the relationship between Vietnam and the UK to a new strategic level.

While receiving Blair in Hanoi on March 18, Dung highlighted the positive development of Vietnam-UK relations over the years, bringing practical benefits to both countries.

Blair also voiced his continuous support for deeper ties between Vietnam, the UK and the EU in all fields, especially economic cooperation and public-private partnerships.

Mongolia, Vietnam boost economic ties

(VOV) - Vietnam and Mongolia will expand bilateral cooperation in all areas, especially economics, trade and science-technology to meet their national interests.

The agreement was reached at the 15th session of the Vietnam-Mongolia Inter-governmental Committee for Economic, Commercial, and Scientific and Technological Cooperation in Hanoi on March 18.

Both sides showed their keen interest in agricultural cooperation, in which Mongolia will supply its consumer goods such as animal products, wool and leather to Vietnam, and in turns Vietnam will ship rice, sugar, fruits, vegetables, tea and other agro-forestry products to its partner.

(VOV) - Ho Chi Minh City Mayor Le Hoang Quan on March 20 received a business delegation from Guam, the US, led by Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo.

Guam Governor Calvo highlighted common features between Guam and Vietnam, affirming their shared interests will help facilitate bilateral cooperation.

He noted that his Vietnam visit aims to foster cooperation between Guam and Vietnam, particularly in economics and culture. His delegation includes many businesses operating in this area, he added.

Myanmar, Vietnam target US$500 mln trade in 2015

(VOV) - Myanmar and Vietnam will strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation to raise their trade value to US$500 million in 2015.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on March 20 between Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and her visiting Myanmar counterpart Nyan Tun.

To achieve the goal, the two countries will increase visit exchanges at all levels and maintain the existing cooperation mechanism, including regular meetings of the Vietnam-Myanmar Joint Committee and Joint Sub-Committee on Trade, as well as political consultations.

(VOV) - The two Prime Ministers have affirmed their determination to create favourable conditions for businesses to boost economic, trade and investment cooperation.

At talks on March 15, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Lao counterpart Thoongsing Thammavong expressed their satisfaction over the constant development in bilateral cooperative relations in various fields.

Two-way trade between the two nations reached US$850 million in 2012, up 17 percent on 2011. Vietnam’s 440 investment projects worth US$5.38 billion have turned the country into one of the leading trade and investment partners in Laos.

BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior discipline official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) met with Vietnam's inspector general on Thursday and pledged to boost anti-corruption cooperation between the two sides.

Zhao Hongzhu, deputy secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said anti-corruption efforts are a precondition for realizing the "Chinese dream" of rejuvenating China.

The CPC will increase exchanges and boost cooperation with Vietnam and other countries to fight corruption and build a clean government, Zhao said.

Vietnamese Inspector-General Huynh Phong Tranh said Vietnam is ready to exchange corruption-fighting experience with China and boost bilateral relations.

FM Minh to visit Qatar, France

(VOV) - Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will pay an official visit to Qatar on March 23-24 at the invitation of Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

The two officials will discuss measures to boost Vietnam-Qatar cooperation in a wide range of areas such as economics, trade, investment, and labour. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

After Qatar, Minh will fly to Paris to begin an official visit to France at the invitation of his French counterpart Laurent Fabius from March 25-28.

The two diplomats will examine ways to strengthen cooperation in politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, development cooperation, education-training, culture, science-technology, health care, and legislation to bring Vietnam-France relations to a new level.
