I am curious, Vietnam is forging strong military relations with USA to counter the growing power of China and now its inviting the Russians to Vietnam as well?

Does Vietnam want to use both Russia and USA to counter China?

You may too hightly appriciate Vietnam. Russia and USA are not sheeps to be used by Vietnam and Vietnam does not counter China. Vietnam only tries the best to protect the country in general and the terrorial water in particular. The supports of Russia and USA are both important since their voices have power. As I understand, beside Russia and USA, Vietnam has quite good relationships with Asean, India, Japan, Australia, South Korea ...

This question that might bring you a wishful thinking, and that will not happens based on the history of both countries (Viet Nam and India)

If the future that makes India invade Viet Nam then its will got beats like any super countries who was getting involve war in Viet Nam. There is no exception for any countries who wants to invade Viet Nam if its want to survivals and it the only way.

Back to the topic, Viet Nam will and never stop to struggle for its independence, and China is the only country from time to time loves to gets war with Viet Nam.

Why? China always want to expanding due to the greedy inside its blood and never stop. Once China finishing Viet Nam, the rest of nations from South East Asia will become China lands and that also in China maps from its dynasty to dynasty.

Does China feels happy when its got invaded by the other nation? If you do, that's odds and if you don't, then Viet Nam does not like it either. Better fight for survivals, fight for Vietnamese Freedom and for Viet Nam independence the only way that is fight.

India was defeated by the LTTE in 1987.

Last i recall, every confrontation with LTTE ended in a tactical victory for India, It was strategic defeat as Sri Lankan Govt didn't want us there.

Hence it is called India's Vietnam.

Vietnam strategy is to bring all big players in south china sea, Russian base , US base and Indian base ....more head ache for china.

Indian base if ever built will mostly be for training,

India is not capable of power projection the SCS region.

The difference is,

Chinese will be fighting for island grab or false prestige, while Vietnamese will be fighting to save their country. So one can guess who will be a fierce fighter and who will get bloody nose. But I hope the diplomatic moves will solve the situation peacefully and somewhat restrict the ambitions of CCP to call neighbouring countries as their land based on some historic maps.

Vietnamese are fighting for freedom, so any help for them from US and Russia is welcome. The american and russian interests are aligned in SCS. So a win win situation.
