Vietnam protests China's military exercise in South China Sea

Same can be applied to you. I ain't the one calling people "monkeys" so calm down and no I'm not getting involved.

I don't tell people to keep fighting. I make a new thread and tell them to engage in civil conversation.

There is a difference in methods.

I wasn't telling them to keep fighting in case you missed the sarcasm...

Anyway let's leave it at that and stop wasting storage space.

BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday pledged to bolster exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam, where the Communist Party elected a new leadership last month.

Hu made the pledge during a meeting with Vietnamese special envoy Hoang Binh Quan, who briefed him on the 11th National Party Congress of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

During the congress, Nguyen Phu Trong was elected general secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, sent him a congratulatory letter.

Hu repeated his congratulations on the successful congress in his meeting with Hoang, the special envoy of Trong and CPV international department chief, at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

The Chinese side believed the Vietnamese Party and government would lead the Vietnamese people to the goals of national construction and development, he said.

The traditional friendship between China and Vietnam was a "treasure" of the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples, Hu told Hoang.

"The Chinese party and government treat relations with the Vietnamese side from a strategic and long-term point of view," he said.

China would adhere as always to the guiding framework of "long-standing stability, facing the future, neighborliness and friendship and all-round cooperation," and the principles of "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners" to promote each country's construction and the bilateral ties, Hu said.

Hoang conveyed Trong's regards and appreciation, saying the new CPV leadership would work with China to lift bilateral ties and contribute to peace, stability and development in Asia and the world.

If the Chinese think they can actually invade Vietnam and succeed, they are kidding themselves.

The Vietnamese are historical masters of guerilla warfare. Even the Americans with such a large arsenal of advanced war machines and weapons failed to subdue Vietnam - miserably.

What does China have today that America didn't have in the 70s? If China tries invading Vietnam today it will just get another bloody nose.

Americans tend to ascribe their loss to guerilla warfare to make excuse. Acutally guerilla is only a supplement of mainstream warfare, so did vietnam war. any successful cases of guerrila warfare i.e. vietnam, Afghanistan, and yugoslavia in WWII, can not sustain without external aids. without constant logistic supply , guerilla warfare failed in weeks.

1. External aid helps, but is not crucial for a successful guerilla war.
2. If China invades Vietnam, do you think the entire world will sit still and watch?

Vietnam protests China's military exercise in South China Sea

Hanoi - The Vietnamese government has protested recent Chinese military drill near the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea, state media reported Friday.

The defence exercise was carried out by China's South Sea Fleet on February 3.

This action seriously violated Vietnam's sovereignty over the archipelago, the state run newspaper Viet Nam News quoted Nguyen Phuong Nga, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying.

It also went counter to the Declaration of the Conduct of the Parties in the South China Sea, issued by the Association of South-East Asian Nations and China in 2002, she added.

The action has negatively affected peace and stability in the region, Nga said.

The Vietnamese government made a similar complaint as the Chinese State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping on January 18 included China's disputed version of its maritime border in the area on its official online mapping service. It gave China more than 80 per cent of the South China Sea.

The Paracel Islands are not the only disputed territory in the area. There are also sovereignty issues between Vietnam and China, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines over the Spratly Islands and the surrounding waters.

The Spratly and Paracel Islands and their surrounding waters are believed to be rich in undersea mineral resources.

Vietnam protests China's military exercise in South China Sea - Monsters and Critics

china should respect its neighbors and stop bullying them.:tdown:

China should start to built trust in its neighbor .... Cause they have conflicts with almost all their neighbors and USA taking profits of it.

Yes. Just like Georgia.

Georgia has 4 million people, Vietnam has 80 million.

Vietnam has a relatively capable army and air force with plenty of experience. Georgia does not.

Vietnam has one of the world's largest paramilitary forces. Georgia does not.

Georgia had many restive regions that wanted to breakaway, like Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Vietnam does not.

Vietnam has one of the world's fastest growing economies and represents a major market. Georgia does not.

Vietnam straddles a highly strategic location along the South China Sea. Georgia does not.

Vietnam has defeated China in a previous encounter. Georgia has never defeated Russia.

Vietnam is not Georgia and Georgia is not Vietnam. Think before posting.

We don't have a Vietnam fed by Chinese and Russian arms and Vietnamese anti-air crews trained by China.

In a real war there are so many tools to deal with Vietnam. Vietnam doesn't have AWAC, air recon or anti-sub planes. In addition it has 2 S-300 anti-air missile sites, which we have the complete documentation for. In a real war, we can easily jam the S-300 radar, then bomb it. Strike with ballistic missiles first, followed by H-6, JH-7 and Su-30 escorted by KJ-2000, J-7E, J-8F, J-10, J-11 and soon J-20. KJ-2000 can easily detect and jam planes even taking off.

1. no need to argue on that. common sense.
2. we will not invaded Vietnam. we have no claim on their land mass and have no obligation to feed tens of millions of mouths. possiblity does exist that conflict over spratley islands happened. we put their persons on these islands in custody and sent them back home. that is all. who will intervene? India?

Vietnam, by itself today, is a very capable nation militarily. I have no doubt they are capable of defending themselves.

And if they do get invaded, they will recieve support, both from their former enemies (US and A) and their old friends (Russia).

You guys are thinking the same way Yankees were thinking in the 60s. You should heed what Sun Tzu said about underestimating your enemy.

He's a idiot. Mao wrote the book on guerilla warfare. Vietnam was directly taught by China. In the meantime, China has advanced Mao's theory far beyond farmers with guns, we have taken the guerilla warfare concept even further with stealth fighters, ballistic missiles and lasers, while Vietnam is still stuck on the farmers with guns level. How can the student who has never advanced, beat the teacher who has advanced far faster?

LOL, stop mentally masturbating over this thread. I guess if the Chinese "taught" the Vietnamese, it is one of those instances where the student gave a lesson to the teacher :)

USA and Russia.

US-Vietnamese relations are very close nowadays.

Yes US will denounce China's provocative movement over spratley.
FYI, the US doesn't recognize vietnam's claim over spratley islands so far. Malaysisa, filipines also claim them.
did US got involved in China's conflict with filipines in 1994? Russia intervene with conflicts over few small islands in south china sea to offend its strategic friend? what are you smoking. well you should pray for these happen. don't you think india alone will make justice served?
