When china started to ask for investments from overseas Chinese, Tiananmen accident happened. Overseas Chinese with hatred to CCP, together with CCP factions and US interference, tried their best to overturn PRC. If you compare current Vietnam with China in 1980s, it is extremely similar. Factions within CCP(VCP) manipulate student demonstration for their power struggle. Something similar to Tiananmen, or East Europe and Russia will definitely happen in Vietnam. No country can avoid it, including China and Vietnam.

After China builds more military bases in SCS and can offer security for Singapore, China-Singapore relation will be much closer and offer China to give direct control on Malacca straits.

There are more than 40 millions overseas Chinese in ASEAN countries and they do extremely well in economics. This is another critical force for China in ASEAN countries. Vietnam and Philippines cannot rely on ASEAN in your struggle against China.
