HANOI, July 19 (Reuters) - Vietnamese automaker VinFast said on Wednesday it would start construction of a $4 billion electric vehicle factory in North Carolina next week as part of its push to expand in the United States market.

The unit of Vietnam's largest conglomerate Vingroup (VIC.HM), which began operations in 2019, announced plans for the U.S. factory last year. It is targeting the start of production in 2025, a year later than its initial plan.

I think this Vietnamese business is making up reasons to transfer assets from Vietnam to the US. This likely involves massive corruption.

This investment is illogical, Vietnam is clearly a better place to build a factory than the USA.

Nonsense. they already have massive manufacturing factories for cars, bikes, buses and batteries in Vietnam. Those factories in the US are for North America markets. Vinfast just follows footsteps of other Asians the Japanese, Koreans, Chinese.
The most challenge is still to come. How to sell hundreds thousands of cars to customers.

Best wishes to VinFast. Is VinFast focusing on the European market? VinFast should be focusing on gaining a foothold in the Norwegian market. Chinese EVs are in demand in Norway so VinFast should be competing against these Chinese EV makers.
