Vietnam After 2016: Who Will Lead The Country? Pro US or Pro China

It's simple geographics and scale. A country of 100 million can't be the enemy of a neighbour of 1.4 billion. They tried that in Europe before ww2. Look at what happened after.
Some may have said the same thing here

True, but the Soviets took whatever they wanted. And we're not talking about war between China and Vietnam. Before long, half of Vietnams external trade will be with China. You think they'd still allow US bases against China's objections? It's simple logic. Economic ties foster cooperation, and make it very hard to go against each other's wishes.

Not bad, potential comment for trolling... :yay::sarcastic::haha:

well, my friend. there is a big difference between braveness and stupidity. while we are brave by nature, we want to avoid the latter. if vietnam reaches a GDP of $1 trillion, and defence budget of $50 billions then we can begin to talk about it. our opponent is not thailand or other weaklings in SE Asia, but the giant panda China.

anyway welcome to the forum.

Ofcourse, Mr.X faction will win, nthing surprise about that, out of 23 people that will elect in major position, many are on Mr.X side, but power most likely balance out as like 2 years ago when congress see Mr.X hold too much power and create more position in party to balance out and decentralise. Mr.X not that uphold in military though, Mr.S got more support, Minister of defence are pretty much neutral. Mr.X got support mostly from economist, ministry of public security, private sector, ministry of foreign affair and natonal libration front and young pp in party
Mr.Trong side are bunch op old man talk about ideology but not much in action, just like many wumao and troller in Internet. Competition will between Mr.S and Mr.X . But result will be neutral in international as it alway be in 15 years. Mr.S and Mr.Trong are very cozy with each other recently as Mr.X look so powerful

Mr.X is very pragmatic and opportunistic though
Most powerful politican over past 30 years is Vo Van Kiet- teacher of Mr.X, not Mr.X

It will take centuries before Vietnam gets a 1 trillion dollar economy. That is because Vietnam's economy is not based on technological advancement but rather using its resources and cheap labor. Look at Vietnam's scientific publication statistics.

poor country, face a harsh reality and live under others shadow with ambitious but fantastic dream. lucky to be born in a powerful country.

Only Vietnam could regained Independence from Han Chinese, others in china is sinized now, very sad for you.

I say look at Japan. The price for development and alignment is reduce independent policy. Look at South Korea, look at Philipin, look at Canada, look at German, look at Taiwan. Vietnam friend, look beyond, look long term.
Either way like you said Vietnam will either be China's pet or US' pet.
