NEW DELHI: Hindu rightwing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) organisation on Tuesday asked the Indian government to follow Israel's example and take military action against Pakistan in the wake of the Mumbai blasts last week that killed around 200 people.

"Two Israeli soldiers were abducted in Lebanon (last week) and Israel has launched a full-scale war (on Hezbollah). India should immediately act in a similar way with Pakistan without bending to any pressure from the Muslims and international community," said VHP president Ashok Singhal said in a statement.

He added that over 12,000 Indian soldiers and paramilitary forces have been killed in insurgency-hit Kashmir and the northeast over the last 12 years.

The VHP leader also asked India to stop train and bus services between Indian and Pakistani cities and urged Hindus to boycott "foodgrains and music" from Pakistan.

Condemning the July 11 train bombings in the country's financial capital, Singhal called for there should be a strict anti-terror law.

"The anti-terror law should be stricter than the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) in line with the anti-terror laws of Britain and the US."

Singhal alleged that the recent terror attacks in the country, including the Mumbai blasts, would not have been possible without the support of local Muslims.

"Therefore the central government, the Maharashtra government as well as all other state governments should immediately come down heavily on the madrassas."

"Local supporters of the jehadis should be searched and the jehadi network should be finished throughout the country," Singhal said.

can someone call him up & tell him that we had nukes 10 years ago?

Why does India always have to copy others or take advantage of current events?

9/11 gave her the opportunity to deploy massive forces in Kashmir after the parliament was attacked, without 9/11 she'd be considered the agressor.

Now she wants to follow Israel's footsteps so she can get away with it again?

Its kind of embarissing to see how desperate she is to eliminate Pakistan.

The Sangh family basically ruled India until the last government. Seems like this family would be in power come the next election. It is a cause for worry for us when lunacy breeds in big numbers in your neighborhoods. Big enough to sometimes win elections!

At least last time round they were talking about limited war, now its quite clear they want to destroy Pak. I hope Indians show their disgust and sanity by voting them out again.

Within days of the tragedy, the BJP organized an anti-terrorism rally in Mumbai, which was addressed by Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat. The choice of Modi as the mascot for its anti-terrorism campaign was not without reason. Modi was at the helm in Gujarat when mobs led by Hindu right-wing activists massacred thousands of Muslims in 2002. And in the years since, he has adopted a virulently anti-Muslim, pro-Hindutva (an exclusivist Hindu ideology that the right wing advocates) agenda.

In Mumbai, Modi launched a blistering attack on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's "soft" approach to tackling terrorism and demanded that Delhi re-enact the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) or else give the states the power to enact their own anti-terrorism legislation. Several other BJP leaders, including L K Advani, home minister when POTA was enacted in 2002, have demanded that it be revived. So far the government has ruled out re-enacting the legislation.

Some believe that POTA or similar legislation is essential to prevent terrorism in India. They miss the point that when it was in effect it didn't prevent terrorist attacks. India's parliament building was attacked in December 2001, when POTA was an ordinance. The Kaluchak army base in Jammu was attacked (May 2002), followed by a string of terrorist strikes on the Akshardham Temple (September 2002) and the Raghunath Temple in Jammu (March and November 2002).

In fact, POTA might have been instrumental in fueling terrorism. Its misuse - POTA was used by the Modi government in Gujarat to harass Muslim youth after the riots - is said to have contributed to deepened rage, prompting hundreds of them to join extremist outfits fighting the Indian state.

Those who are clamoring for tough new legislation to tackle terrorism are also ignoring the fact that existing legislation provides police with powers they need to fight terrorism. Soon after POTA was repealed by the new Congress-led government, some of its provisions were retained by amending other laws. For instance, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 was amended to include POTA provisions for banning terrorist organizations and their support systems, including funding

Asim,

RSS?VHP has been speaking abt destroying pakistan from time imemorial. And is not a recent phenomenon as you point it out to be.

And as an Indian i see BJP/allies sliding to bigger defeats after every elections and i have again no idea whats the basis of this assumption.Something you know and i dont.

Last time they came to power what drastic did u see other than a muted reply to mushraffs kargils adventure. They infact showed maturity not to go by the hype of creating an allout war and asked the army to capture the hill from our side of the border.

VHP can want anything they like.

They are plumb stupid with no idea of geopolitics or geostrategy.

It would be a sheer waste of time and effort to even listen to the tripe they spew!

.
Given the effect their presence has on our excitable neighbours, its worth keeping them around sir!

People in here need to visit the RULES section and try to comprehend them if that has been difficult thus far. If you want to talk directly to a member, use the PM feature. Launching Direct Attacks will NOT be tolerated.

Just as ALL the irrelevant posts were deleted right now; such action will continue to be taken as the Mods have other things to do than constantly babysit a few who do NOT want to learn forum etiquettes.

No replies are required to this post. Carry on with the topic at hand!

What if India does the reverse & votes them in because they are disgusted with the UPA being soft on Pakistan?

Do realize that the anti-incumbency factor is constantly at play.

Beware of hot pursuit, Pakistan warns IndiaFO says it could lead to nuclear war, holocaust

By Mariana Baabar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has warned India that any attempt to carry out hot pursuits into Pakistan and Azad Kashmir could lead not only to a nuclear war but also to a holocaust.

Describing Indian media reports about such hot pursuits as “highly irresponsible”, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Monday said, “Do they want a nuclear war or a holocaust? None should make a mistake that Islamabad would allow hot pursuit either inside Pakistan or Azad Kashmir.”

Speaking at the weekly press briefing here, she said: “We want to pursue the path of peace and also want the peace process to resume. We are ready to discuss all issues. No one can get away with hot pursuit. We had (earlier) seen the move of sending a million-strong army, which was amassed at our borders but we returned to talks. This is the only option before us.”

The spokesperson’s remarks come at a time when tensions are running high between the two nuclear-armed neighbours over the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. New Delhi not only blamed Islamabad for these attacks but also called off talks under the composite dialogue.

The spokesperson re-emphasised that the peace process between the two countries was not only in their own interest but also in the interest of the people, the region and the world at large.

“Pakistan is committed to the peace process and we are waiting for India to indicate new dates (for the foreign secretarial level talks),” she said. She did not rule out a meeting between the two foreign secretaries and the foreign minister-level talks in Dhaka. “There is no meeting scheduled but, if they are both there, they will interact,” she added.

It is doubtful whether the Indian foreign secretary will attend the Dhaka meeting, while New Delhi is reluctant to nominate a foreign minister at this crucial time. Replying to a query, the spokesperson said consular access was being provided to both Pakistani and Indian prisoners in each other’s jails and by the end of this month the procedure would be completed.

Lately there have been reports Islamabad approached Beijing when President Pervez Musharraf visited China for two new nuclear reactors to meet its continuing energy needs. The spokesperson said there have been no Pakistani casualties in Lebanon and by July 26 about 69 Pakistanis presently in Damascus will be evacuated to Pakistan.

“We have been in touch with other countries and our embassy is open and busy in evacuating Pakistanis. The embassy is providing all possible assistance and would even purchase tickets for those Pakistanis who cannot afford it,” she said.

Replying to another query, she said that after Nato takes over command from the coalition forces in Afghanistan, Pakistan will continue to provide support to these forces and to the Afghan government.
