Very low transit fee for India to use Bangladesh route raises eyebows

For perishable goods it makes no sense for such exorbitant rate and make it totally economically unviable. Non-perishable goods like steel,cement..etc can be stored for long period of time in storehouses and sold. As such it makes no sense to pay high premium and with good inventory management distance problem will be sorted out.

More ever with myanmar & thailand building highways NE area will get access to cheap materials sooner or later its just a matter of time.

By the way India is transporting goods for the past 60 years using chicken neck corridor and we will continue to do the same. We will continue to pay the same money to our railways and let them profit from it no issues.
Cant give into unreasonable & uneconomical demands, better luck for bangladesh else where for making easing money.

So stop pushing us to give transit. Scrap the whole thing. It is Indian coercion that has forced the government to give transit just to remain in power at India's behest however autocratic or undemocratic the Awami League ...

Now you just sound stupid, what land route through india do we use to export to other countries? All our export apart from Nepal and Bhutan are through our seaports.

Now we have an agreement to allow all south Asian countries (except Pakistan) to use each others road, rail and waterways for trade to a third nation, so apart from Nepal and Bhutan, which is also $50 million trade for Bangladesh (as stated by a BD member), Bangladesh can use Indian transport network to trade with all south Asian and central Asian countries, east Asia when the India-Myanmar-Thailand route is complete, and maybe with China also in future. Now, if the transit fee, tolls & taxes, transport cost, etc. are kept unreasonably high by the participating countries (SAARC minus Pakistan), then the whole purpose of the agreement, that is economic development of south Asia through mutual cooperation, fails to materialize.

What Bangladesh is asking for is Tk 42,320/- for one 40tn container just for passing through a 350 kilometers route, most of which is river ways. Now that's freaking high.....forget river ways, even 8-lane steel reinforced highways (as @iajdani was proposing) won't charge that much of toll fee or transit fee. What Bangladesh is doing is signing an agreement of mutual cooperation but violating it in letter & spirit.

The calculation is that how much does it cost Indian companies to go around Bangladesh. I would assume more than that being demanded by Bangladesh for going through the country.

Now coming to the real point, BD section needs a moderator who is regular in this section, understand the Bengali mentality well, loved by all BD members, yet doesn't suffer from typical Bangladeshi bias & prejudices. Now I know after reading this many BD members like @bongbang @Doyalbaba @chaanmia @Anubis @BDforever would pounce in me and request me to become the mod for BD section, but hold on guys, I appreciate your feelings but I can't accept that role, I am better off being an ordinary friendly member here than to become a police.

This leaves us with one and just one conclusion, Bangladeshi section is better off without a mod.

That would definitely sweep clean the BD forum from all biases and prejudices, like I would have declared here that the Tk.192 rate is just fine and anybody opposing it will be banned for 3 years, but biases and prejudices makes the discussion vibrant....I want BD section to remain a vibrant place without any strict moderation.

I seriously think that this fresh political controversy in Bangladesh is another BNP+Jamati political agenda. At Tk.192.22/- Bangladesh would get Tk.7688.80/- just from the transit fee for each 40 tonne container on a tuck or on a boat, which is more than enough for a distance of only 350 kilometers. At Tk.1058/- it would be Tk.42,320/- for just one 40 tonne container, isn't that a ridiculous amount for a toll fee??

BD members here should think logically, not like a typical anti-Sk Hasina or anti-India or pro-Jamati.
