It prompted the government to convene a meeting of all parliamentary parties to devise a plan to decisively counter terrorism. Parliamentarians had on Wednesday finalised proposals following a marathon 11-hour meeting at the PM House.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his address to the nation after midnight said that the days of terrorists were numbered in Pakistan and that they would be dealt with a iron hand, DawnNews reported.

In his televised speech, the prime minister said the terrorist attack on the Peshawar school has changed Pakistan, and that strong action was needed to root out the menace of extremism from society.

Nawaz Sharif explained that political parties had reached a consensus on setting up military manned ‘special tribunals’ to deal with terrorism related cases.

He said that the courts will be set-up for a term of two years.

The PM explained other points in the national action plan including the raising of an anti-terrorism task force,

He also stressed the decision to put a complete blackout of the media giving a platform to militant groups, along with strict measures against terrorists using the internet and social media to spread their propaganda.

“Peshawar atrocity has changed Pakistan, we need to eradicate the mindset of terrorism to defeat extremism and sectarianism," he said.

“This horrendous attack has shaken the nation…the terrorists struck the future of this country, when they murdered those children,” PM said.

In his speech Nawaz Sharif explained that political parties had reached a consensus on how to defeat terrorism.

Agreed. I will have a new found respect for him if he can live up to these words.

Good start !
Maybe the govt. will surprise us and follow through these recommendations especially the madressah bit.
Also just saw a ticker on Capital t.v that Malik Ishaq is re-arrested after being granted bail!

. .
More points:

  • There will be a crackdown on hate-speech, and action will be taken against newspapers, magazines contributing to the spread of such speech
  • Measures will be taken to stop religious extremism and to protect minorities
  • Keeping the rehabilitation of IDPs as the top most priority, administrative and development reforms in FATA will be expedited
  • Operation against terrorists in Karachi will be taken to its logical conclusion
  • Like the rest of the country, no space will be given to extremism in any part of the Punjab
  • In the interest of larger political reconciliation, Balochistan government will be given complete authority from all stake holders

.
These military courts are better than usual ones, at least they can ensure justice and can give punishments to the terrorists and criminals which they deserves. These military courts should be allowed to work permanently. Now we have seen enough of our incompetent, useless and terrorists sympathizing traditional justice system.

.
Excellent points indeed. Now we need to see storming of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa as soon as constitution is amended. Need to see those terrorists dead. Specially TTP and LeJ.

Meeting with Political Parties and Army lasted for more than 11 hours.

.
Good. Few questions though:

  • Banned outfits will not be allowed to re-active under different names
  • Total blackout of terrorists on media
  • Communication system of terrorist organizations will be destroyed
Q1: Will few anchors who are biggest known syhmpahizers of these terrorists also be banned?
Such as Hamid Mir, Ansar Abbasi?

Q2: Will terrorist backers in politics such as Rana Sanaullah, who openly roams arround with terrorists also be equally punished?

.
I was saying he needed to address the nation and take people into confidence if he's serious about tackling terrorism.

Good thing came out with not just an address but an action plan. Plan looks great on paper and I'm very confident at its implementation, as well. Let's pray for the success of not just the Army and the Govt but the entire nation of Pakistan as a whole against the menace of terrorism.
