Venezuela has been rocked by more violent demonstrations as protesters demanded a recall referendum on President’s Nicolas Maduro’s rule.

Hit hard by the collapse in oil, the South American nation’s economy has imploded, leading to high inflation and a chronic shortage of basic goods.

One recent poll showed almost 70 percent of Venezuelans want Maduro stripped of his powers.

‘‘A better Venezuela. Thats why we are here. To save the country. Because it is extremely sad to see your own son starving,’‘ said a woman.

‘‘Listen, the Venezuelan people are desperate, we’re hungry. I never thought we’d reach this point. We are determined to solve these problems. The political repression is not the main problem. We just want this to come to an end, not for us, but for our children. Our future has already been badly damaged for years,’‘ one protester said.

From the Venezuelan capital Caracas, Euronews’ Alberto de Filippis said: ‘This demonstration began with a few dozen protesters. By the end there were thousands shouting,
‘Maduro go home’. Eventually, police dispersed the crowd using teargas.’‘

Down the coastal road in a small fishing town called Boca de Uchire, hundreds gathered on a bridge this month to protest because the food deliveries were not arriving. Residents demanded to meet the mayor, but when he did not come they sacked a Chinese bodega.

Residents hacked open the door with pickaxes and pillaged the shop, venting their anger at a global power that has lent billions of dollars to prop up Venezuela in recent years.

“The Chinese won’t sell to us,” said a taxi driver who watched the crowd haul away all that was inside. “So we burn their stores instead.

it's getting crazy over there in Venezuela. isn't there a saying people are only a missed meal away from rioting.

China is going to have to help out this failing state.

1) grace period of 1 year, so no more shipping 300,000 barrels of oil a day to pay back that $50 billion dollar debt they owe.
2) $5 billion dollar loan

those two right there will get Venezuela $8 billion dollars to work with. enough to pay off it's remaining debt for 2016.

but if oil doesn't go back to over $100 by the end of this year into 2017 this will be just delaying the inevitable and China will be on the hook for tens of billions of dollars of bad loans to Venezuela

I think Venezuela is about to buy 10,000 or even 100,000+ Haier Air Conditioners or at least subsidize a major portion of the cost

no food or toilet paper but at least you can be nice cool in your house while watching state owned TV channels. can't say the same for the people queuing in line for hours.

so I figured out how much gold Venezuela will have left by the end of 2016

assuming gold stays around $40 million a tonne. Venezuela will have to sell off about 160 tonnes of gold to pay off remaining debt for 2016


160 tonnes out of 260 tonnes leaves Venezuela with only 100 tonnes of gold they will have went from 367 tonnes to 100 tonnes in less than 2 years.

USD 10billion is a peanuts to China. If Venezuela can't pay, they can lease us few hectares of land to build an military airbase for peace patrol.

$10 billion isn't peanuts to China. maybe in 2008 it was. you loaned Venezuela over $50 billion and are still getting paid back in oil for those generous loans. China knows Venezuela is a lost cause. China has it's own bubbles and zombie companies it needs to keep from popping.

Cadavers Explode in Venezuela’s Neglected Morgues

Exploding bodies in the morgue are becoming a serious problem. (Canal de noticias)
EspañolWednesday October 5, several patients of the University Hospital Antonio Patricio de Alcalá (Huapa) had to evacuate after a body exploded in the morgue after two days of decomposition.

The incident was reportedly caused by faulty storage facilities.

“It’s not the first time that a body exploded,” said one worked. “It has already occurred two times since the middle of September. We don’t use formaldehyde here, so the preparation of the bodies is in the hand of the funerary. There are no disinfectants or chlorine either.”

The internal conditions of the morgue at the main health center of Sucre require bodies to spend up to five days exposed on the floor of the hospital. When they explode, this affects the nearby areas and the main corridors.

The staff working in the hospital and the morgue complained that unhealthy conditions there are a serious problem, because patients are exposed to toxic fumes and the stench of decomposing corpses. In addition, the site lacks basic products for disinfection.

When the bodies explode, patients that have to leave their rooms are exposed to the problem in the hallways despite themselves being hospitalized for sensitive, serious illness.

“We can not bear the smell,” one patient reportedly said.

Venezuela is on the verge of collapse this year. It will not be able to service it's debts while also maintaining it's social spending . Inflation is forecast to be over 700% by the end of this year.

I think there are two or more scenarios that will happen this year


1) Maduro will either be removed from office legally or a coup/revolution will happen

2) Maduro with the backing of military will remove all opposition from power, and Venezuela becomes a one party state.

3) Maduro and his government uses up all it's foreign reserves (mostly in gold) get's loans from China,Russia, and Iran and prays oil raises above $60 dollars by the end of the year.

in any scenario Venezuela is pretty much screwed and it'll be average person who suffer the most.

Well the problem is probably 85% of the country is dirt poor. Maduro is going to keep promising to give them free money until nothing is left to sell for hard currency.

The end is starting

Maduro has the support of the military so it is far from over. If Venezuelans can do what the Egyptians did to get rid of Mubarak then yeah it'll be the end then, but a protest here and there isn't enough. they need to occupy the center of Caracas for more than a week or two.

this is so confusing how is the bolivar leaving Venezuela destroying it's economy??

the Bolivar has been constantly losing value compared to the official peg of 10 to 1usd

just how many bolivars are leaving the country to Colombia and does it matter??

the M2 supply of the bolivar 9.35 trillion bolivars so far they have confiscated 100 million bolivars at the border, so let's say these traders bough bolivars at 1000 to 1usd on average..that's only $100,000 dollars, let's say the amount of bolivars have left the country iin total 100 billion bolivars that's $100 million dollars. I just don't see how this destabilizing the country.

the people have no confidence in the Bolivar and it's going to continue lose value no matter what. I wouldn't be surprised if they go to a barter system if they can't get access to dollars.
