While there are arguments all over the world about how a vegetarian diet is good for a long, healthy life, or how it is changing the human DNA, an Indian author has taken a complete different stand on it.

Prominent dalit author Kancha Ilaiah recently claimed that vegetarianism equals anti-nationalism.

Speaking at an event celebrating BR Ambedkar's 125th birth anniversary on Thursday, Ilaiah said:

"Vegetarianism is anti-nationalism...if a whole nation becomes vegetarian, its protein levels will go down. You know why the West Indies won all the games? It is because they eat protein-rich food (sic).”

India lost against West Indies because of vegetarianism, said Ilaiah.

Describing countries like China, Korea, Japan and the US as 'beefarians, porkians, fisharians and frogarians,' Ilaiah said that Indians could not compete with them because of 'lack of protein' in the diet.

"For me, my nation starts with eating beef. Unfortunately, we gave up eating beef and our brains are not growing now. There is not enough protein," he said, according toThe Times of India.

Remarking on how the 'upper caste' Hindus in India had slowed down the progress of the country, he said, "At a time when Socrates and Plato were writing about justice and republic, scholars here were busy writing about Kamasutra. Do we need to write a book about that? Animals know how to have a sexual life, why are you teaching it at 1st century AD?"

Vegan diets have high amount of proteins and vitamins, but they are limited to only particular kind of vitamin or protein, like vitamin a b or c etc. Meat is the perfect combo for most of the vitamin and protein source.

Even doctors suggest NV diet for proteins, to pregnant ladies.

And even snake venom is nothing but a rich source of protein that a human body cannot bear, when it's fed on a single shot. Don't take anything without limits and don't simply blame it on NV diets, for your foolishness.

The best source of protein is whey (derived from milk), ask any body builder.

Whey power should be provided to all Indian school children.

Vitamin B12 is only found in animal products, including dairy which most Indian vegetarians eat.

Heme iron is better absorbed by the body than non heme iron from plants.

There are several other nutrients and micro vitamins that are difficult to find in highly absorbable states in plants. Vegetarians tend to develop deficiencies in these.

Human being evolved in east Africa to eat animals. In part that was how are brains evolved to the size they are.

While some of us can function healthily on many types of diets including the NO plants Only animal diets of the Eskimo to the only plants and dairy and no animals of Jains most people fare best on a mostly plant with some meat and fish diet.

I don't know who this Kanchi Koonchi person is, never heard of her or him. nor do I want to rile up anybody's closely held religious beliefs BUT from a purely non spiritual and only physiological point of view, the vegetarian diet is NOT healthier than the non vegetarian diet.

We don't need much but it is preferable that we get some meat, fish (especially Omega 3 containing).

Anemia, vitamin deficiencies and fatigue are very common among strict vegetarians.

At the end of the day, our bodies evolved in a certain way and you can't pretend otherwise or wish it away. We are quite simply smart hominids nothing more than that.

to add to kancha ilaiah's comments about diet, let us recall the idiotic statements made by bjp state governments when they banned the very necessary eggs from school mid-day meals.

This guy should kill his parents and eat them, then he can be considered as legendary nationalist. #pathetic
