Vedic University to be set up in Kerala

. .
What is the reason for this apparently ridiculous rule?

1. Temple's maintain shuddhi and there are certain rules to maintaining Shuddhi.

You cannot visit a temple when you are sick, have a disease, when you have death in the family, or when a women is menstruating. You cannot carry weapons into a temple, spill blood on temple grounds, enter it while drunk, after consuming non veg, without taking a bath, etc.

It is to ensure that infection is not spread and blood is not spilled on holy ground. It signifies the social, spiritual and religious importance of Temple as a house of God and the respect we extend to him in his house.

2. Temple is in the middle of a jungle and it was suppose to be a very dangerous journey in which many did not make it back.

3. Legend of Aiyappa who freed this Sastha temple says he was a bachelor who abandoned his love to serve his purpose and died a bachelor.

All this comes together in the rules for visiting Shabarimala.

There are several reasons behind that.....This temple is totally different from others i have visited.... Here every one can go and there is no restricitons (hindu, muslim, christain, anyone)...... and this is one of the most secular temple in India..... The best friend of Lord ayappa is a Muslim, and he is also part of the temple...... Though most of the customs are designed several decades back, keeping the difficulties and hardships of the devotees in mind.....Few of them are irrelevant today....

Lord Ayyappa is a Brahmachari and that is the reason why women between 10 and 50 are allowed.... They are not allowed beyond Pamba (the holy river) which is about 3.5 Kms away from the temple........

If you want to know beyond this search in google, (or will help you with some links) if not the discussion will turn in to a religious one....
Ok. Brahmachari... Now got it.

what's the big deal??
Relax. Was pulling your leg.

Girls before Puberty sets in are allowed, and women above 40 who are post Menopause are eligible to do the pilgrimage.

These things are taught in every conservative hindu households, a Man should wake up on right side and step on the ground with right foot, for a woman it is the left side,
Likewise, when you touch someones feet there is a specific way you do it for Gurus and differently for elders and others.

Males are not allowed to wear shirt in Temples in South India, They have to go bare chested, since the abode of the lord is in the Heart and in the chest, so the chest should be well exposed to receive the blessings of health.
These laws can be seen in Sri Kalahasti and other olden temples.
There are many such things ,which todays people dont know about traditions, culture and the correct way of doing things, since they live in nuclear families where there is no one to guide them in the Do's and Dont's of Hinduism.
Truth be told...The north has lost it... almost. I know the six kalimas, but not much about this above.

Kerala should also consider building Dravidian University. Kerala is based in the Dravidian speaking region. According to many scholars Vedic Aryan invaders destroyed the Dravidian Indus Valley Civilization.

What about a Dravidian university in Brahui region ?Dravidian language in India is expanding .But Brahui is facing extinction.
So that will be a good choice right ?

You thought I was obsessed with gender equality issue? :coffee:
No. I thought you are a Hindu fanatic. :D

Dravidian university is actually already there in AP. :)

I agree...... I been to temple of several states across... and i found our temples are on of the best run temples (barring sabarimala)...... You can go to most of the temples wearing pants and shirt, where as most of the temples in Kerala it is not possible...... You are not supposed to wake up on left side, and it is advised to to be on right side or on your back......Chandanam in my place - Male Gopi kuri and Female horizontal...

Well the reason we get bombarded with all those troll post is because of one reason...... BJP is yet to open is account in Kerala
What I heard about it is that we should get up from bbed while facing on east .:D

Wow!
Thats some good news.
But let me remind you sanskrit was never the language of masses, it was used by the elite brahmins only. So despite starting a channel it might not get the audience that other commercial channels get. But still hats off to Utrakhand govt for attempting something so risky.
When I was in school I had read a line or 2 of upanishad in my sanskrit book
satyam vada - speak the truth but not the unpleasant truth
dharmam chara - Practise righteousness, do things according to your dharma.
bhootyai na pramaditavyam - This is one is a lil more tough to understand. It means contribute to activities which 're in the larger interest of our society.
But nowadays ppl 're attempting to make sanskrit a masses language so that it is used by everyone. So these days books will give you the sanskrit translation of sentences like "this is a chair", "this book belongs to Ram".

It is a great idea to show that Sanskrit can be used to communicate modern ideas but I think the richness of its original ideas should not be sidelined. What say?
I second that especially last para yar....
I hope our nexgen will not be ignorant as we were .....

.
Lol.... Thats a very long wait......... Sabarimala is believed to be the second highest religious place in the world where highest number of ppl visit on a particular season (after makkah)....Govt face several difficulties on providing facilities to the devotees..... and the infra is not adequate to accommodate the existing devotees....and people ignorance is another issue.... but improvement is significant...... probably in another 5 years we might see lot of change.......By the way Modi was supposed to visit sabarimala during last season.... but they postponed it to a monthly opening time.... dono when is he gonna visit.....

Forget leader, there are 2 factions and they fight among themselves........

I understood what you meant there...
@nair Actually what was the purpose Sabarimala location ?Why did the deity choose a hill top surrounded by forest ?
The reason behind all of this was that the devotees should suffer the pain and difficulties of these pilgrimage.I have heard about the stories where pilgrims took a one month journey with all of preparation including rice and cooking vessels.

But now this is not a genuine pilgrimage .People would nt take 41 fast in some cases. Now our Sabarimala is just become a pilgrim tourism .

And govt is damaging the eco system of Sabarimala in the name of development .Too bad. They have their reason ,for them all of these are just economy not a devotion.

That was a dumb question. Before the pilgrimage the devotees should take 41 days of tough fast ,body and mind should be total clean .How can a woman take a fast like that ?And the journey to the Sabarimala is total difficult and there is also religious reason.
l
I don't know - what if a woman is a yogi and wishes to visit the place. And she is aged ... say 40 and lives a celibate life devoid of material pleasures? Yay or Nay? :D

There is much knowledge in Vedanta my friend.

incase you are wondering who Dr Dean brown is:

From 1952 to 1958 he was a nuclear reactions specialist in the DuPont Atomic Energy Division, Savannah River Laboratory and Project Matterhorn at Princeton University.[1] While at Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study he claimed to be a friend of Albert Einstein, with whom he played Go as a way of exploring John von Neumann’s game theory
right...am pretty sure you can line up a few isro scientists to say something similar... personal belief is separate from his day job.

secular it might be.. but dont they perpetuate a myth by an elaboare hoax in which govt of kerala is involved i suspect.
women are not allowed in many religious places due to belief that they are unclean(women menstruate.. which might be gross to men.. but god is not a man, right?)

I think there are still some good practitioners left in north, but i have to say the Vedic Pandits in south still follow the rituals and scriptures to the letter. While in North some of it has changed. You should visit Tirupati Vedic University or the Godavari and Krishna District Vedic Pandits.
They still take part in Ghanapati challenges.
One Person is able to listen to 500 or more people questioning him at the same time, and gives satisfactory answers to each and every person who asked him the question. That is a mental feat of course, which needs many years of training the brain to perform such tasks.

In this case the god chose to be celibate, learn to respect the beliefs and traditions. Why don't you leave Hindus to follow their faith and you can around playing with your Pseudo-Secular beliefs.
