Pilibhit: Bhartiya Janta Party candidate Varun Gandhi had a bad start to an election meeting after the stage he was standing on collapsed.
The incident took place at a nukkad sabha' of Bhatiya Janta Party in Jithaurakala area here. The stage that Varun Gandhi was standing on collapsed under the combined weight of his party members.
However, no casualties have been reported.

PILIBHIT: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Varun Gandhi today escaped unhurt when the stage set up for his election rally in the constituency caved in as soon as he stepped on it.
29-year-old Gandhi, who was on an election tour of his constituency, had just stepped on the stage in Bithaura Kalan in Gajraula area after exchanging greetings with the public when it collapsed and he fell down with it.
Though he escaped unhurt, his security personnel had to give him a cover as people in large numbers rushed towards the stage causing chaos for a while. The stage was, however, promptly repaired after which the rally got underway.
Later in his address, Gandhi, whose parole was extended today till May 14 after being booked under the National Security Act for his hate speeches, said that he had gone to jail for upholding the self respect and honour of the countrymen.
