Actually it situations like these which show the versatility of such machines. have a feeling that more will be ordered seeing their usefulness in this disaster.

Likely scenario is that more C-130s will get bought; upto 24 eventually. All may not be the C-130J Long Fuselage versions. As it is there a move to buy 2 Herks for Weather (Hurricane Hunting) roles. I've seen the USCG variants as well as the NOAA a/c. As for me; I'd even pitch for approx 12 Sea-Hercs for the IN and ICG. Very rugged aircraft that can be adapted for various roles in a jiffy; even being suitable as AARs for both the INs fixed-wing and rotary-winged aircraft. I know that there is already a pocket of such thinking in the IN, it will get an impetus with such reports. That combined with 6 Shin Meiwa Amphibs will be enough for Transport/Utility/SAR roles along the coast-lines.

About the replacement for Avros; That category of aircraft is necessary considering that the HS-748 is outdated and even the UPG An-32s will need replacement eventually. One of the pluses of the C-27 Spartan is the commonality it share with the C-130 in respect of power-plants and avionics. But other contendors like Alenia are also in the running; so there will have to be a run-off eventually.

My hunch is that even the C-17 orders will be increased by the time the first lot comes in; over the additional 6 options that are on offer. This weather related incident will have some impact on thinking in MoD to increase its options.

my guess is that atleast 20 C-130J hercules aircraft will be procured from Lockheed martin but not more than that because IAF is looking Medium Role Transport Aircraft produced in a joint venture with Russia as AbdingonBody pointed out.

Nada amigo; CPL means Commercial Pilots Licence. Do atleast brush up on these basics before tossing these terms around.

Non existing middle class??? Where do you live....

Besides, even with the poor BIMARU states from where the vast majority of poor comes from, India has a hgher literacy rate, living standards (HDI) of medium level, higher GDP per capita (PPP) and normal GDP etc etc etc....

We are spending incredibly high sums on anti poverty measures and development... sums of which your country cannot even dream of.... and we are lifting millions out of poverty each year!

Just compare the stats from 2011 and 2001.. they speak volumes about Indian success and progress. And with even more cash its only going to continue,...

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP)2005: Pakistan would start manufacturing parts of Boeing aircraft from June this year thus formally joining the club of aviation parts manufacturers."At this Factory through Boeing offset programme, we shall be manufacturing aviation parts for Boeing 747, 767 and 77 aircraft," Air Marshal Aurengzeb said. He said know-how thus gained through this venture will certainly help in establishing JF-17 (Thunder) aircraft production line.
He said parts of Boeing would be manufactured here and sent to the company for their onward sale and supply.
Technicians of Boeing are working on the installation of the plant which would be completed by the end of this month and would start production from next month, he added.

Prime Minister opens Boeing parts facility at PAC

KAMRA (February 28 2006): Pakistan on Monday joined the coveted list of countries manufacturing aircraft parts for the world's largest aircraft manufacturer - The Boeing Company.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz inaugurated the manufacturing facility at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), which is already manufacturing six types of aircraft, three types of engines, air defence and air-borne avionics systems and their components.

Prime Minister Aziz appreciated Boeings willingness to transfer technology to further cement business relations and help in building bridges between the East and West.

Boeing offered transfer of technology. Boeing Quality Management System Certification training and technical support to PAC, after evaluating all necessary infrastructure, expertise and internationally recognised Quality System at PAC.

It has received orders for manufacture of 476 parts by November 2006. Boeing is to purchase parts from the PAC till August 2010 under an agreement, which could be extended for another two years.

The PAC has also commissioned the hi tech CNC machines received for Boeing and continues to upgrade its manufacturing special processes - Heat and Surface Treatment and Non-Destructive testing facilities. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also inaugurated the C-130 aircraft propeller overhaul facility for the Hamilton Sunsdstran of Holland.

CHINESE FIGHTERS: Pakistan is also currently working on an ambitious joint production programme with China to replace its aging fleet of Chinese fighters, with a modern multi-role, all-weather, day-night aircraft. The PAC is supplying aircraft and services to several international companies, including the Rolls Royce USA, SAAB of Sweden, Sagem of France.

He said the companies should see the PAC as their extension. "We are not shy of performing, of delivering of being competitive and will supply you the quality products," he added.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also called for more joint ventures and more focus on marketing to leverage the full potential of the organisation. He said with reliability, quality and dependability as its hallmarks, the PAC would now be a partner of Boeing and join the list of its international vendors.

The Prime Minister referring to the overhauling of propellers for the C-130 aircraft, said it was a workhorse used by many air forces around the world. "We need to market our capabilities and need to go for joint ventures," he added.

Describing the PAC as a "Centre of Excellence" he appreciated its role in the rebuild, manufacturing and design of aircraft and said, "every Pakistani is proud of PAC...you have made us proud."

He said the JF-17 Thunder will be the frontline aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force in the next decade as it has the necessary punch, the avionics and the capability to defend the country's airspace.

The Prime Minister said the PAC would expand its manufacturing capabilities in electronics, avionics and production of aircraft.

SELF-RELIANCE: He said self-reliance for essential defence equipment was very important for Pakistan as it has seen many ups and downs in the past.

"The more self-reliant we are, the more we are prepared for future challenges," he said. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said steps were under way to further enhance exports of the Super Mashak aircraft and appreciated that they have earned the PAC a good repute, both by civil and military users.

Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Khan, Chairman Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra, said: "The PAC has developed a sound technological base that can meet international military and civil aviation standards."

He said the PAC underwent an in-depth survey and fulfilled all pre-requisites for the award of contract from Boeing. Four PAC factories attained the highest quality certification in Aerospace manufacturing of AS-9100 Rev B standard and the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

"The expertise attained has not only synergized our existing indigenization and JF-17 co-production programmes, but has also enhanced our ability to absorb such offset related opportunities in future," he added.

Vice-President of Boeing Ms Mary Monica said: "The PAC can now work as a team member of the company and can also compete for future works." She said the PAC would be a member of Boeing's global supply chain and can provide quality parts at competitive prices.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was accompanied by the Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar, Minister of State for Defence Habibullah Warraich, Minister for Defence Productions, Minister of State for Defence Zahid Hamid and Minister of State for Environment Amin Aslam Khan.

Earlier, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat received the Prime Minister at the Minhas Air Base. He was briefed about the working and expansion plans of the PAC Kamra by the Chairman of PAC Board Air Marshal Aurangzeb.

The premier also witnessed the agreement signing ceremony for the manufacture of parts for Boeing by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.

Visit of the President of Pakistan Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari to PIA Precision Engineering Complex (PEC) at Karachi Airport on January 6, 1994. Contract Manufacturing in Pakistan: The Next Industrial Revolution

Islamabad: In pursuit of product diversification of exports along with industrial and employment growth in Pakistan, the Export Promotion Bureau has identified knowledge based Contract Manufacturing Engineering sector. In order to sensitize the related Pakistani industry and obtain feedback the Export Promotion Bureau for the first time arranged an “Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Contract Manufacturing Seminar” on April 27, 2006. Mr. Pervaiz Lodhie, an American entrepreneur of Pakistani origin, Mr. Miguel Santos, Director, Boeing Company and Mr. Glen A. Green, Vice President, Boeing addressed an audience highlighting “The Next Industrial Revolution” which is outsourcing and contract manufacturing of engineered products, electronics and electrical parts by the developed countries to developing nations like Pakistan.

The effect of outsourcing is of huge benefit for developing countries like Pakistan by increasing our export base in electronics and electrical field also thus diversifying our export base from cotton based to manufacturing. The world market is very large and growing fast as cost of production increases in developed countries and technical capabilities improve in the developing ones. The United States of America alone out-sources annually over $600 billion worth of products to the developing countries and this figure is growing rapidly. This unique opportunity provides increased employment and growth in Pakistan from the production and enhanced exports when such goods are exported back to the buyer.

After the Seminar the Chief Executive of Phillips, Mr. Shahid Zaki, Mr. Miguel Santos, Director, Boeing Company, Mr. Glen A. Green, Vice President, Boeing had a meeting with Minister of State and Chairman Export Promotion Bureau Mr. Tariq Ikram to discuss this opportunity and outline the way forward.

Mr. Miguel Santos, Director, Boeing Company informed the Minister of State that Boeing has placed electronics contract manufacturing orders on Precision Engineering Company and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex for around $100 million. Mr. Santos expects that in the next two to three years, Boeing could surpass one billion dollars for precision engineered parts manufacturing companies. Boeing is not only placing the orders but providing the technical know-how by deputing their engineers to train Pakistani counterparts. Boeing has even supplied the machinery needed to prepare these parts used in their 777 Aircraft model series to be sold globally.

After almost two hours of discussion, Mr. Tariq Ikram, Minister of State and Chairman Export Promotion Bureau advised that this opportunity be taken up very seriously as it not only helps increase exports in value-added engineering sector but also creates employment and skill development in Pakistan. He constituted an action team comprising following persons who are experts in their related fields.

The Action Committee will develop proposals further. He hoped that he will be able to have the final proposal presented to the Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan in a few months.

The line of action agreed was to first do a concept paper on the nature and size of opportunity and broadly how Pakistan could exploit this opportunity and the export and employment opportunity that could be expected. Thereafter the would identify the sectors where outsourcing would be possible for Pakistan to cater to in the short and medium term. Thirdly to develop a paper on the ‘Case for Pakistan’ which should identify the benefits that a company abroad could expect if it outsources to Pakistan. Minister of State suggested that because such an industrial venture was generally high-tech, needed a different culture, had common vendors etc it may be useful to request the Sindh government to provide a 100 acre piece of land to set up a dedicated and EECM City (Electronics and Electrical Contract Manufacturing City). He agreed to discuss this further with the Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh. The Minister of State suggested that the State Bank should also include this contract manufacturing industry in the Long Term Export Project Financing Scheme which had been developed by the State Bank on the request of the EPB to support innovative and new export initiatives.

In the meantime, Export Promotion Bureau will contact the International Trade Center to get their technical expertise in order to launch the project.

All the members of “The American Business Council of Pakistan” are fully supporting this project and have assured the Export Promotion Bureau to help the local electrical and electronics manufacturers in helping them get order from USA.

Later, such cities would be established in all major cities of Pakistan.

The fact is US never gives its advanced weapons under ToT... by now you would have understood.. considering the MRCA deal.... when the americans refused to give ToT for their jets...
Who the fook wanted outdated TOT for those blithering 40 year old platforms like the F-16 they wanted to dump on us? Jeeez! The Yanks can take you guys for a jolly good ride like they've always been doing, but not us! :P
