Uttarakhand: Air Force helicopter crashes; eight feared dead

Sterling service done by the country's forces - collectively they have evacuated more than 60,000 people - many of them from very treacherous spots, injured and even a lot of old folks.

The defense guys are always at the forefront in most rescue operations - Great respect for these selfless souls.

. . .
Latest news 12 bodies found. RIP.....

. .
Horrible weather, low visibility and hundreds of sorties taken for the rescue - there are indications that there was a cloud burst that brought the Heli down.

Has to be a cloud burst, a lot of rainwater gushes down onto the chopper at once, bringing it
down.

RIP to those brave souls.

.
is there is any helicopter in the world that can fly in this kind of weather?

. .
This Rahul Gandhi is such a manhoos of first order. Wherever he goes he brings his manhoosiyat with him. Here he goes to Uttarakhand and here the well going rescue operations got their first setback.

.
That's Unfortunate.. What's the actual status? Any reason for crash?

Extreme weather most likely. As it stood the IAF pilots said they were performing at the limits of their machines' performance- not much reserve power, limited visbility, rough weather etc etc. It is as dangerous as it gets.

So tragic

is there is any helicopter in the world that can fly in this kind of weather?

None........

That Mi-17 was very new.

Wonder what happened.

RIP.

And supposedly state of the art. But then every machine is prone to such unique tragedies.

May the family of the fallen have strength to bear the news :(. One of them was my colleague's class mate...
