Of late it has been noticed that terrorists have been using military uniform for gaining access and attacking their targets. There are many examples in which militants have dressed in uniforms used by security personnel to either ease their way to the outer cordons of secure installations or to wield an air of authority that initially masks their intent.

Shia passengers in four buses were shot dead in Mansehra by terrorists in commando uniforms. In Kohistan in February, on a similar attack on Shia bus passengers, the gunmen were also in military uniform, as were the militants who in October 2009 attacked GHQ in Rawalpindi. Similarly, militants who intruded in PNS Mehran air base in May 2011 and in PAF air base Minhas Kamara in August this year also took advantage of military uniform for gaining access in to their targets.

However, after the attack on GHQ in October 2009 by the militants who were dressed in army uniform it was decided by the GHQ that all shops selling different items of military uniforms in the local market will be closed to deny unauthorized persons to purchase these items freely. But this decision was never implemented. There are thousands of shops in the country supplying all the items of army, navy, rangers, coast guards and police which include rank badges, unit shoulder signs, caps, cap badges, arm bands, belts, boots, stitched uniforms and availability of cloth for any type of uniform.

There are also tailors in the local market where one can get uniform stitched/altered. In a barber shop one can also get military style haircut. Similarly, all types of military cloth and stitched uniforms, boots, belts and caps etc, are also available in huge quantity for open sale in the local ‘Lunda Bazar’ in every city of the country.

It is pertinent to note that no item of PAF uniform is allowed for selling in the local market. All uniform items of the PAF are controlled stores and new items are issued to PAF personnel only after their uniform items are rendered unserviceable through fair wear and tear. PAF personnel have to return these unserviceable items are put before a ‘Board of Officers’ for converting them in to cleaning rags after tearing them in to small pieces. Hence, there are no chances of misusing any item of PAF uniform.

I would request the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Pak Army General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani to take notice of this security lapse on the part of the concerned in the Pakistan Army to take action on the same pattern as taken by the PAF.

We are seeing this in Balochistan & in Northern Areas that the terrorists are using the uniforms of the martyred. It was proven & the evidence was given to the Supreme Court & the Govt. but these bastards continue to keep their eyes shut & they are staying deaf because they all are reading the script given to them by the US & getting nice $$$$$$ for it.

this is not a new phenomenon . similar tactics were used in Indian Kashmir too. militants used IA uniforms when they attacked the sunjawan army camp and 2 others like it . this was a decade ago . after these attack the govt stopped pvt sellers from selling army fatigues in the open market.

you are right

the LTTE was able to mount some spectacular attacks using Sri Lanken Army uniforms.
the use of uniforms as a cover reduces suspicion on cursory observation and buys time against the target defenders

this is why regardless of the uniforms, passwords and call signs are used to identify friends from foes, in such situations ID cards cant be relied upon because by then the imposter is too close already and can eliminate the guards before they can react.

the TTP and BLA will continue to use uniforms in their confrontations just like our special forces use local clothing for covert operations and surprise attacks.

the rules of the game are , there are no rules of engagements and everything is fair.

forget our courts
what do you expect from them when you see them offering joint prayers for terrorists like Osama and freeing up terrorists due to lack of evidence who even while in court boast to continue with their violence against the state and minorities.

our international observers chose to ignore Courts and Lawyers when they point at taliban sympathisers in our state institutions

When we are going to take notice of the sale of such items??

how many shops our govt has closed down where one can find these millitary items?

Why some people have made it a habit to blame self-corruption on US?

Do you think that corruption in Pakistan was rooted by US? Please grow up.

A Soviet Man of Letters [rec.humor.funny]

talin is dying, and summons Comrade Khruschev to his bedside. Wheezing his last few words with difficulty, Stalin tells Khruschev, "Comrade, the reins of the country are now in your hands. But before I go, I want to give you some advice."

"Yes, yes, Great Leader, what is it?" says Khruschev.

Reaching under his pillow, Stalin produces two envelopes marked 1 and 2. "Take these letters," he tells Khruschev. "Keep them safely--don't open them. Only if the country is in turmoil and things start going badly, open the first one. That'll give you some advice on what to do. And, even after that, if things start going REALLY badly, open the second one." And with a gasp Stalin breathed his last.

Well, Khruschev succeeded him, and sure enough, within a few years things started going badly--unemployment increased, crops failed, people became restless. Nikita decided it was time to open the first letter. All it said was: "Blame everything on me!" So Khruschev launched a massive deStalinization campaign, and blamed Josef for all the excesses and purges and ills of the present system, and bought himself some time that way.

But things continued on the downslide--Kennedy successfully rebuffed Soviet missiles in Cuba, unemployment increased even more, crops failed even more, the Politburo was unhappy with Khruschev's leadership and upstarts like Brezhnev and Gromyko were threatening his credibility. So finally, after much deliberation, Nikita opened the second letter.

All it said was: "Write two letters."

A law has to be passed and enforced giving licence to special outlets only to sell uniforms. it is complicated and almost impractical as well to implement. if there are commissions involved in getting those licences then those outlets will rip off the individuals and respective organisations giving chance to the fake and unapproved uniforms that are cheap and can pass for a genuine uniform.

when there so much wrong and unaccounted for then uniforms are the last of the worries. our judiciary lets go terrorists due to lack of evidence. part of our country inhabited by shia are constantly under siege & attack , they are routinely marched out of public & private transport and executed, our judges and lawyers openly hold joint funerals during court times in court premises for Osama Bin Laden. the assassin of our governor has a hero status, our minorities are routinely accused of blasphemy and face public lynching.
our Burka Mullah still preaches from Lal masjid and taunts the state and mocks the Pakistani soldiers killed at the hands of TTP our Ahmedi community has even worse treatment than the people of Indian held Kashmir or Ghaza strip and not to forget the Hindu community that is being harassed by bigots and forced to seek asylum in India ....

in short my dear, worrying for misuse of uniform is understandable but look at the rest of the picture and watch the world pity this sorry state of affairs.

Do you see any solution to the predicament Pak is in ....................Its lie Pakistan is falling in a never ending pit with no way out .

I think we need to do some sort of innovation in the field of identification .

An active duty soldiers should have something like RFID or some other identification chip which cannot be replicated in market.
Install devices to moniter if there is any person on infrared camera who does not have that chip with him . Bingo u got an intruder.

Just an idea........

Plus our bases need to have a buffer zone of 200 to 300 hundred meters and there no one should be allowed to enter.Install automatic sentry guns to kill any intruder. All the villigers should be made aware of this so that they dont get hurt.

Enough we are in middle of war are hell we cannot save our precious assets from these scum bags.

its only good if there is equipment to identify that chip from 500 yards. if the supposed terrorist is standing next to a group of guards in front of the post ready to be identified then its already too late. he will simply explode himself and take out the first line of defence and pave way for his real team to breach into the base.

this process is only good indoors to prevent someone from reaching a VVIP person or any thing critical that is kept indoors.

buffer zone is the best bet, and instituting electric wire fence and sensors, they dont cost much.
manned patrols with dogs are simple and time tested.

sentry guns are indiscriminate like mines and they would mean that even the repair and maintenance staff cant go there and they might even trigger off at our own patrol. secondly , their application is still in testing phase by the west. we might not have the appropriate technology to develop one or have access to get one anyway.

no my dear

we will do just fine. its just a phase in the life of a nation and it will pass. he have seen off even worse than that. back in the 80s we had to host over 6 million refuges and suffer the terror of Khad and KGB for a decade toy bombs, hammer group and bombing the public places used to happen back then too.

the points I listed are about attitude towards complicity and relaxed behaviour towards nipping the evils in the bud. all is not lost though, I am not alone who is acknowledging and pointing out our mistakes and weaknesses and our propensity towards extremist Salafi/ Deobandi Islam that AQ and Taliban project. there are other people too and the disease always fights the cure and there are effects of that, bad blood comes out and it causes pain but in the long run it works for the better,

You just wish that it never happens in India because if that happens then the whole region will be affected many fold.
