Nawaz Sharif is going to the US for UN Summit meeting.....Pak-US Bilateral talks are also on the cards with Obama inviting Nawaz to the white house....I just have this hunch that we may see a deal being signed for additional -16's during this visit

I will use every opportunity, every advantage I can for the country.. emotions must not drive our actions clarity of thought and logic should.
putting jihad on the asses of anti pakistanis is my firm and hard wired belief. loathe them or love them... the Yankie machines are a marvel and have made aces and champions out of our warriors so any time I get these I am happy.
Correct sir .
No need for prejudice. Pak should get anything from anywhere which is best for its defense.
Emotional thinking has no place in defense .

The US Air Force (USAF) currently operates more than 1,000 F-16C/D aircraft of Block 40/42/50/52 configuration and it's looking to upgrade around 350 of its F-16s under a service-life extension program (SLEP). USA will start retiring some of the older F-16s from it's service from 2016. These old F16s block 25/30/40 might be sold to other countries.

PAF is probably interested in both NEW and surplus F-16s.

of the 28 embargoed F16s 14 were given to USAF and 14 to USN. the 14 USAF aircraft were delivered to Pakistan during Bush admn, however USN refused to release their 14 aircraft. if this news is true, then USN has finally been persuaded to release their 14 aircraft, of which 2 are delivered and 12 pending. the initial Bush admn approval was for 28 aircraft which were produced and embargoed.

Qibla,

Do you believe these planes might be an incitement for Pakistan to join the coalition for the coming offensive ?

Bhai tujhay Khuda ka wasta hai kuch parh likhnay kay baad post kiya kar. The 16s will remain relevant in the Indo Pak theatre till 2025--30. That is the time frame we will look to change them. Till then they are the best that you have.

what I know about F16 is that there are different production variants F-16A/B (A is for single seat and B for two seated ) F-16A/B (C is for single seat and D for two seated )
F-16A/B Block 15
F-16A/B Block 20
F-16C/D F-16C/D Block 25
F-16C/D Block 30/32
F-16C/D Block 40/42
F-16C/D Block 50/52
F-16C/D Block 50/52 Plus
F-16E/F Block 60

Even if they talked about it, it won't come out of this discussion as a "decision made". Our POTUS if agrees to the request, will send it to the Pentagon. They'll announce it. Getting used -16's isn't a big deal and the US now has surplus as she's starting to get -35 soon.

If I was Pakistan, I'd honestly get used -16's about 100 of them, from the USAF's low flight hours inventory. You get block 40-42 or even 50, with all the upgrades of Block 52 and ready to be flown. Super cheap price tag and much capable planes.

Pakistan can pretty much eliminate the entire gap that exists today with the IAF. These jets will be good for the next 10-15 years. With this, you know now you've come on par with the IAF. Now focus on bringing JFT Block III similar to where -16 block 52 is, along with getting Su-35 or J-11D's and starting work on 5th gen stealth. -16 gives you over night equilibrium with India, its amazing. No pilot training or anything needed!

Hi,

You kids come out so strong in your initial posts and then you guys FIZZLE out---. Which means that your basic and fundamental information base is incorrect.

Your post is so silly----.

PAF does not have many options to tap into for replacements of its ageing fleet of F-7's and Mirages. Finances, Engine constraints, and Indian influence has closed up most of the options available out there.

Therefore, PAF is doing what it has done best over the years -- making most of what it can get from the market easily and at a lower price tag without embargoes and going for upgraded and up-rated Chinese platforms tailored to its needs.

Replacement of F-7's with JF -17 is ongoing --- with a lower performing engine and avionics suit. However, with an intention to upgrade both in coming years.

Mirages will also be replaced with JFT's but would require a longer range radar and enhanced avionics suit for the deep strike role -- a role that is currently envisaged for Mirage fleet. Furthermore, JFT twin seat version is needed to ensure Nuclear Deep Strike Element within the Mirage fleet can be replaced. Another must for the deep strike role is the availability of air to air refueling capability. all of this and some other capability is either there or being worked upon as we speak.

In essence, New build JFT's increasingly tailored for PAF needs are being weaved into the force. Engine avionics/radar upgrade and use of composites is in the offing or natural progression of a sound platform.

The high end of current PAF fleet is the various blocks of F-16's (76+2). PAF, in my opinion, will keep on adding to it by buying less expensive, second hand A/B's and upgrading them thru MLU/SLEP programs using Turkish expertise. Case in point is the acquisition of RJAF platforms.

A good mix of Air Superiority fighters in the shape of F-16's upgraded with BVR capability -- enhanced capability JFT for point defense and interdiction role up from those currently available PAF in the shape of F-7's and ageing Mirages is a very good mix.

This is a can do thing for PAF keeping in view the various constraints being faced by PAF and Pakistan as whole.

Therefore, in future i see more purchase of New build and second hand F-16's and constant upgrade and SLEP program for those machines.

Any infusion of SU Machines either the SU-35 or the lesser Chinese equivalent would be an added bonus for deep strike/interdiction.

However, IMHO -- availability of an up-rated engine for the JFT is turning out to be the biggest challenge for the overall program.

Indian influence has become history. The best thing for Pakistan to do, is to buy 80-100 lock 40-50 -16's from the USAF's low flying hours inventory. These jets would be good for the next 10+ years and would come at 30% cost and ready to fly the next day. So you can equal the IAF's capability the second these jets land. The continue to upgrade JFT to block III. Block IV should be a smaller stealth platform based on Micro J-31 components. Buy SU-35 or J-11D and J-31. But buying these additional -16's will put the PAF at ease from a numbers perspective and it can freely venture out to other options. And yes, the money is available. About half a billion would buy you like 60 -16's plus weapon packages (30 mil per plane which should be cheaper in excess defense article's case).
