What this article basically says, is that the Asian students tend to get the best results. (By Asian, I mean Chinese/Indian/Pakistani etc.)

I think Asian parents tend to be more pushy and will continuously nag you to work harder etc. when they are young. This could explain why they are pulling ahead.

Very true. I would argue that many people in the developed world are becoming complacent, due to a high standard of living etc.
In Hong Kong for example, I think that immigrants from the mainland tend to be a lot more "hard working" than local Hong Kong Chinese, who are sometimes spoiled by their rich parents.
Good times and comfortable living has a tendency to cause a lack of motivation. In my opinion at least.

Precisely the point I raised in my reply to Andross. This is a general human trend... if kids fail to realize the value of money the relevance of the same diminishes multifold. I can assure you there is a similar trend in India as well, although on a much smaller scale. But we will start to see an increasing trend as our nations get richer and disposable incomes grow.

At the moment both India and China have ample man power to absorb the jobs, but that wasn't the case for US, they had a much smaller man power base, hence shortage of cheaper labor.

This reflects a trend which will last only for a single generation. Most of these asian "talents" are first generation. Their parents toiled hard to build a good live for their kids... so most still realize and value the importance of education. But wait for the second and third generations and you will see this gap diminish.

In fact, many decent Americans have deep sense of crisis, unlike the fanatics in this forum.

Interestingly, highly educated, up-echelon Americans always agree that American system has flaws and needs to be improved. G. Washington once said, let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. He acknowledged in the beginning the potential defects of the system. In stark contrast, those un- or under-educated in America, like the fanatic in this forum or the farmers in mid-west who don't even know where Canada is, always think US system is impeccable, and perfect, and they are the most patriotic in this nation.
