USA and UK are looking for removal of UN sanctions against Taliban. In their efforts to drive a wage between certain Taliban groups for a dignified exit from Afghanistan.

Those who had been calling Taliban as terrorist, should see how the West changes its faces. The question is why Pakistan is thinking to do operation in North Waziristan, and turning Taliban against Pakistan? We have witnessed two attacks in last two days against Pakistani posts by Afghan Taliban.

Zardari, Gilani, Kiyani wise up and do not commit a mistake of attacking North Waziristan, Americans want to bring their war to your doorstep and drop it in your lap.

Making peace with the Taliban? UN pressed to lift Afghan sanctions

Britain and US accept insurgents' demand to end sanctions on ex-Taliban leaders including notorious Mohammed Qalamuddin

Jason Burke

Britain and the United States are pressing for United Nations sanctions against 18 former senior Taliban figures to be lifted later this month in the strongest indication yet that the western powers are looking for a negotiated peace with the Taliban.
Candidates include the controversial former head of the regime's religious police, Mohammed Qalamuddin, whose officers were responsible for some of the worst atrocities under the Taliban regime.
Officals believe the move would send a clear signal to insurgents that reintegrating into Afghan society is possible if they put down their arms.
The sanctions were imposed in 1999, when the Taliban were in power, and were expanded after the 9/11 attacks on America. They ban about 140 individuals from travelling or holding bank accounts. Removing the restrictions has been a key demand of insurgents in Afghanistan and has long been supported by the Afghan government.

Ha! And they want Pakistan to take action against the Taliban? Just goes to show where the intentions of the US & NATO forces really lie.

Britain and US in drive to lift sanctions on former Taliban

The United Nations is set to rule on appeals by Afghanistan to remove sanctions on former members of the Taliban, as part of a growing effort by Britain and the United States to promote reconciliation with remaining insurgents.

Those listed for hearing by the UN Sanctions Committee reportedly include Mohammed Qalamuddin, who was head of the feared religious police when the Islamic movement held power.

The 15 countries on the committee have until June 16 to reach a decision on the Afghan individuals. Close to 50 names were submitted in September by the Hamid Karzai government.

With the tenth anniversary of the US-led invasion approaching in the autumn, the de-listing process has been used by the allies and the Afghan government as an incentive to members of the Taliban to seek a resolution.

“We want these lists to be dynamic and reflect the threat from the Taliban as it evolves,” said a diplomatic source. “The idea is to change the behaviour of the Taliban.”

London and Washington are determined to end combat roles for their troops by 2015, with public appetite for war waning on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Foreign Office, which has pushed the Americans to pursue reconciliation, is hoping that a majority of the names will be cleared. Russia, which fought 10-year war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, has however been particularly reticent to free Taliban members who may have been among the mujahideen fighters that opposed them.

The sanctions were originally passed in 1999, when the Taliban’s power was at its peak, stretching across four-fifths of the country. They were enhanced after the September 11 attacks on the US.

The removal of figures such as Qalamuddin could prove most difficult of all. His police force whipped and beat women who refused to wear burqas and roamed the streets of Kabul hunting men whose beards did not meet the requisite length.

After 10 years of conflict and $trillions spent on this conflict with so-called terrorists - they are negotiating with the Talibs. But they are pressurising Pakistan to take them head on (TTP + others, also indirectly funded by them to put added pressure on Pakistan) - so that Pakistan can be further embroilled into this conflict.

Pakistan needs to eliminate TTP and ALL anti-Pakistan terrrorists/supporters in the best possible ways - but not at the request of foreign forces. The quicker foreign forces depart from this region the LESS SUPORT WILL BE RECEIVED BY THE PAKISTANIS, PUBLIC OPINION IS CURRENTLY ANTI-US and has sympathised with the Militants.

Whatever happened to "we don't negotiate with terrorists"?

Bro, a dangerous game is played against Pakistan. Hilary and Mullen in their recent visit issued some kind of threat to Pakistan. Since then Pakistan is preparing to start operation in North Waziristan.

Ever since this news break out, Afghan Taliban have attacked two Pakistani check posts, killing our soldiers.
Americans want to make it Pakistan's war complete while they plan to save their blushes and look for face saving exit from Afghanistan.
OBL drama was part of this plan in which unfortunately Pakistani corrupt leadership played a part to bring humiliation to Pakistan. Read my analysis in another thread, there is absolutely no way Pakistan was not aware of Abbotabad raid. Americans made a howler in the conduct of the operation which had no risk, because the dirty work was already done by the Pakistanis.
