What excellent record? Crash can not be single parameter of excellent records. Theses are useless junks even IAF never used them in case of different occasions. My inclination is more towards Mirage 2000 only.

Any time Indian forces get slapped they go for shopping.
Shouldn't they move operational squadrons who can relocate quickly, they have plenty of spares and can operate easily in that climate.
Easier to transfer than buying.
Instead of getting new planes which will take months to years to be fully operational here.

That was precisely what i was about to write as well.

I think what the author failed to mention clear enough, while making a case for western fighters
is that India already has the support structure and facilities for the Sukhois and Migs.

Thus to fill the urgent hole, they are going to order more of what they are OK with.

As for the Mirages, which are the best aircraft for this theater, well they are no longer available.
