US ‘unlikely to win battle against Iran’s oil exports with China, Syria, Turkey still buying’

By bne IntelliNews September 10, 2019

Washington is not likely to succeed with its campaign to drive Iranian oil exports to zero and Iran is expected to maintain its shipped crude consignments at 400,000 b/d in the second half of 2019 and 2020, according to a Fitch Solutions Macro Research research note cited by Rigzone on September 10.

“Despite all [Iran oil] exports now being sanctionable, volumes have continued to flow out of Iran to buyers in markets including China, Syria and Turkey,” the note said.

“Exports have become increasingly difficult to track, with tankers routinely turning off their transponders and performing complex chains of ship-to-ship transfers,” the note added.

China has thrown Iran a “vital lifeline” and taken the lion's share of exports in the
period since sanctions waivers expired in May, according to the note.

“This is not unexpected, given that Beijing and its state-backed enterprises have the greatest capacity to circumvent US sanctions,” it stated.

Some analysts have considered whether China might use its oil trade relationship with Iran as a bargaining chip in its trade war with the US. There is the possibility that Beijing might agree to curtail imports of Iranian oil as part of a trade deal with Washington, but with the prospects of that having deteriorated in recent weeks, there may also be a higher chance that China has become more open to consignments of crude from the Islamic Republic.

“Based on Bloomberg's tanker tracking data, around 55 percent of [Iranian oil] exports since May have been taken up by Chinese buyers and we expect this dynamic to remain in play over the coming quarters,” the cited note added.

The US has set out to cripple Iran’s economy to force Tehran to make concessions on its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and its support provided to militias across the Middle East that are variously enemies of Israel and Arab allies of Washington.

.
But hey, we have another neighbour of Iran called Pakistan, where the genius Leadership refuses to buy cheap oil from Iran via a pipeline, and would rather buy oil delivered by oil tankers, due to which this oil costs more due to transportation costs. A country on the brink of bankruptcy still likes to buy expensive oil .... fantastic!!

In this matter we are on your side. I think our chancellor make this clear during her visit in China.

It has to do with politics as Iran was in bed with India... it may change in future. But the countries are referring to have offered oil on deferred payments. Has Iran extended any such offer?
Though I agree a pipeline is a better option and reduces the costs in long run though it has initial setup cost.

I remember a piece on this years back

China is not bordering Iran, If there will be a pipeline, it needs to go through Pakistan to reach China.

Everybody's a winner:enjoy::enjoy::enjoy:

Iran on order to sell their oil. Needs to sell at a price lower than market rate. Even it's shipped by sea. It will be cheaper than other countries oil.

Enlightenment hasn't come to Pakistan they way it came to Western world.... They will eventually learn in 22nd Century .....

Nevermind brother, But Iran was in bed with India because of us (Pakistanis), because our great NS had other plans in his mind. We were not there when they were actually begging for our help to counter sanctions etc. And India exploited that opportunity quite well.

I don't think USA is losing.

But Israel is definitely.

I think Jewish media is trying to contest USA with Iran.

I hope USA citizens are not stupid.

.
We are afraid of uncle sam thats why we are not importing the cheap oil

.
Why doesnt usa just buy the oil just like the other countries??

What happened to good old capitalism??

Because US doesnt need to buy "the oil"? US domestic oil production is very strong and high now.

On the other hand, we are now seeing that Trump has NO cards to play against Iran.

He flirted with military option, and then learned that US troops will die, so he backed off.

He went for complete economic embargo on Iran, but has found out that 1) Iran isnt being suffocated and 2) He cant get negotiations with Iran without dropping some sanctions.

Trump said Obama was stupid for signing JCPOA, but Trump himself cant get anything better than JCPOA(so far at least)....

The main issue is that the developing world now has alternatives to Western countries. If US wont help you, CHina might, and if China does, you're saved. if US wants to attack you, Russia can protect you ,and if Russia does, US wont attack to even save its dignity. We are still getting confirmation that the world order has changed. US military looking more like Egyptian military - tons of weapons, but only willing and able to use them on terrorists only.

Predators dont like it when the prey fights back.
