US university to ban Iranian students from certain engineering courses

@C130

No country like America. Americans embrace all cultures and relgions. People that do not experience living in the US or dealing with Americans really do not know the real America.

.
can Americans come to Iran and go to your top colleges?? without prejudice?
Of course Americans can. There are international students in Iran from China, India, Europe and Africa. Mostly those who'd like to learn cultural topics specific to Iran.

.
it can happen for other nationals , can it ?
It certainly can for nations that aren't at war with the US. Iran's government openly funds terrorist organizations that are at war with the US and the rest of the western world. Most of these Iranian nationals will go back to Iran and get jobs with the government. That means working for Khatam Al Anbiya, which is the engineering wing of the IRGC.

A Canadian or Japanese or Korean international student won't be going back to a job at an organization that is funding Islamic terrorist organizations that are at war with the US.

Come and see Canada. You may change your mind.

They're not banning American citizens of Iranian heritage (that's my understanding anyway). They're banning Iranian nationals. Which makes sense, because American public funds are being used to educate people that will go back to Iran and possibly work for the Iranian government. That of course can't happen.

If they are banning Americans of Iranian heritage, then that's a completely different story.
Are you kidding? It's illegal to discriminate American citizens over origin.

Haman, keep barking, that's what you're good at. I've lived here for most of my life and I've always been treated with utmost respect and dignity by everyone, both at a micro level and a macro level. In Iran, my family and I, along with 5 million other Iranians were forced out due to unbearable conditions. Now you have the balls to tell me they're treating us bad? Really man?

Hezbollah IS A TERRORIST organization and so is ISIS. Hezbollah is a lot more civilized, but a terrorist organization nonetheless. But why talk about Hezbollah only? Let's talk about Iran's activities as a whole. An American or Canadian citizens of Iranian heritage will not have an issue going to this university. So it's clearly not a case of racism. They're worried about Iranian nationals going back to Iran. Iran is considered a sponsor of terror by every developed nation on the planet, eastern and western. It's a closed of pariah state at war with everyone, including the US. Why should American tax money go towards educating Iranian nationals that will go and work for people that are chanting "marg bar Amrika" on a weekly basis? Russia and China aren't funding Hezbollah and Hamas. Not sure what your point is.

In any case, Amherst has removed the statement off their site for now.

Are you kidding? It's illegal to discriminate American citizens over origin.
And that's not what they're doing. Read my post again. They're barring Iranian nationals, not American citizens. Of course they shouldn't be discriminating American citizens.

Bro, its like burning the guilty and innocent alike, its a common knowledge that majority of Iranian youths are not pro-Islamic Republic, especially those who live in the West. It will just lead to further discrimination against our community in the U.S. you should know first-hand about the problem that Canadian banks had caused for many innocent Iranians in Canada, yet you see Canadian government don't do any shit about Khavari. Regardless of our hostility with the regime, this is a bad thing and must be stopped.

I don't mean to bash any Saudi here, but like it or not significant number of 9/11 attackers were from your country, and were follower of a sect of Islam that is sanctioned by your government, yet I see first-hand that U.S. border patrol give you guys a free pass and yet, I, an Atheist who couldn't give less shit about religion and fundamentalist nutjobs must be subjected to "random" search at the airports. This is bullshit.

The situation with the Canadian banks was slightly different though. They were doing it to Canadian citizens. In this case it's being done to international students. If American citizens or permanent residents were the target, I'd agree with you. I also don't think the Saudi example is a case of double standards. The Saudi government isn't financing Al Quida. Of course half the nation is bat shit crazy, but their government isn't at war with the US and the rest of the world like IR is. Their international students will go back and work for Aramco. Iranian international students will go back and work for Khatam Al Anibya (so essentially IRGC). There is a difference. As usual, we have to pay the price, but I don't see how they're doing anything wrong tbh.

.
no :what:
it's because of sanctions that's it.
plenty of colleges in the world anyhow.

no way Russians and Chinese want out of their countries :D
they get some money and they say bye bye homeland hello America and the West.
it really ticks off the nationals I bet.

Sure as hell does, since we are loosing top of the line talent to the West

I get your point bro, but you see, at the Port of Entry they usually take a picture of you, among other things, like fingerprints, etc. That is completely understandable, their country, their rule, but why there should be discrimination against a certain nationality that doesn't have a beef in this fight? There was a Saudi family, and the woman of that family was wearing Burqa, they didn't even bother to take a picture of her? I mean what the hell? You would think that those are the kind of people that are prone to radicalization and they should worry about. I mean, beside that nutjob Akhond in Australia that had got asylum due to stupidity of the pathetic idiot Australian government, where has ever been a case of an Iranian that commit these kinds of fucked up shit? All I'm saying is that we Iranians are already paying the price, does that mean that there shouldn't be any relief from all this? Are we doomed forever because wherever we go, our birthplace is still noted as Iran?
