And also China? Looking at the present situation and Afghaniztan's geographical location, Pakistan and even China can also be closely monitored from Afghanistan.
Pakistan is still technically a US ally, albeit a troubled one!
As far as terrorists go, the Americans can just go in, and wipe them out. It'd be like morning coffee for those guys.
Afghanistan has many cultural and historical links with Iran. It's Iranian influence in the region that the Americans are afraid of. Iranian influence in Afghanistan would jeopardize US interests in Asia, even though Iran is a staunch opponent of the Taliban.
And, there is also the drug trade. Ironically, Afghanistan happens to be the world's largest exporter of heroin. I believe the key to addressing this problem is enabling Afghans to grow substitute crops both for themselves, the population and the world. There are many NGOs out there to help. That's how the Thais did it. Thailand was once a big exporter of heroin. Now, they are the world's largest exporter of rice
Sadly, I am not seeing the commitment there, even with the Americans being around. I sense something fishy about the whole occupation business.
And of-course, Afghanistan is rich in minerals. Blood for Blackberries!

Don't worry about US getting Bankrupt....They are not fools...There are billions worth of minerals in Afghanistan but the people there doesn't have the tech nor investment to dig it out.... US can import minerals from there or do wat they want...
So forget bankruptancy
Do you seriously think that's gonna make any difference as far as addressing America's debt problem goes?
