US Travel Blogger Recounts Horror Story About Being Stalked, Harassed and Trapped in Delhi OYO Room

The answer to the question of whether India is safe to visit for women is... “It’s no just no... It’s HELL NO”

I agree certain countries in Africa are more dangerous for people to visit. But no place is as wide in difference in relative safety between men and women. India is moderately safe for men. But extremely dangerous for women.

Lol, no it's not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

India's reported rape rate is 1.8 per 100,000 compared to USA's 27.3 in 2010.

Even if you multiply India's number by 20 to make up for unreported crimes, you will get a little bit more than USA's in 2005.

India has a "rape problem" because we have a heavy priority and have open discussion about securing women's lives. Countries like China and many other places hide their rape problem. People know about India's problems because we actually talk about our problems.

India's murder statistics is also very low for a lower middle income country.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

India's murder rate is only 3.22, which is similar to higher middle income countries. Instead look at countries like Brazil, Mexico and USA, these countries are not safe at all, for anybody.

India is more dangerous for men in fact.

. .
Why didn't she call the cops?
Maybe because she was in a moment of shock and didn't know the number of the authorities in india.
Why don't you condemn the people harassing her instead of pointing your finger at her? Oh wait it's that inner bharti misogynist coming out "How dare she try to tarnish my country image, everything is perfect there" :haha:

The Indians will come in here like cockroaches saying how safe India is.
What they will do is post rape statistics from different countries and then try to prove that their country is safer.
None of them are mature enough to address the problem.

lol, another Indian using China "hide" rape problem excuse. When I was growing up in china and to this very day, rape and other types of violent crime are never big problems in China. Many girls as young as 10, go walk to schools or take buses by themselves. You would think if rape is such prevalent problem, at least people would have shared stories and not letting their daughters walk by themselves. There are news and rumors kids get abducted by strangers and sold to country side, but there are never, let me repeat, NEVER, sort of rumors people get killed or raped. Why? because the occurrences of such crimes happening in China is so low, they can't even sustain themselves as rumors, not that rape doesn't happen in china, but the probability is so low, majority people don't even consider that as something of big concern. There were many instances girls in shanghai/beijing dress in scanty cloth coming out of clubs drunk and slept on the street at 2am, guess what, no one gives a damn. These girls normally just wake up in the morning and walk home, or people move them off the street to the sidewalk, but getting raped is the last thing on these girls mind.

Even the worst part of Chinese cities are simply slum with poor people living in it, but even those ghettos are not known for violent crimes or rapes. Just admit it, India has some of the worst rape problems in Asia.

Oh, yes, I am sure you know what you're talking about considering your vast experience in India.

I bet you are one of those dumbasses with a bad experience too, since you couldn't control your curiosity and entered shady places. What did you do, pick a fight with crackheads?

Do me a favour. In case someone asks you if India is safe to visit, tell them this, "If you have a little bit of common sense, you will have a great time in India. If you don't, then it's not worth the visit."

Any third world country is more dangerous than a first world country.

apparently "common sense" is different between Indian and other civilized countries. In China, common sense means not trust anyone walking up to you and try to sell a cup of tea for $100. But dress in scanty cloth and walk alone on the street is never an issue in china, common sense in China tells that dress in those kind of cloths and walk alone most likely won't put a girl in any kind of danger. But in India, I guess "common sense" dictates such action would instantly invite grope or rape. The different definition and level of "common sense" clearly shows India is way behind culturally to other countries in Asia, Europe and North America.

We will talk again once your govt starts announcing the number of actual rapes and murders that happen in China. Do you not know you have a controlled media?

All that you said here happens in India also.

Most of the disgusting Indians commenting in here live in the West, they should all **** off back to their perfect country India.

Ever heard of the term "Precaution is better than cure"?

We have very tough laws in India. Those who get caught are screwed. But what's more sensible is to not walk around without pants in the first place.

Nobody is painting some magical rosy picture. Keep out of ghettos and other shady places, and you will be safe.

That's how a comparison is made. India is safe for women. The only countries that are much more safer than India are mostly developed countries. India's safety record compares to upper middle income countries. So we are already punching well above our weight class.

We are extremely mature when it comes to dealing with this problem. That's why it's all over our media and whatnot and is part of our public discourse. For us, "Even one rape is bad". Start looking at your own country first.

If you were attacked in India, it's mainly because you f**ked up. It's as simple as that.

The only one disgusting is you. Go look up all the hate crimes Australians commit every year instead.

The fact that the girl has travelled to many other countries including China and Egypt and has this experience only in India suggests that this is a strictly Indian cultural phenomenon. Indians are too thick skulled to accept this and say that this happens in other countries too and therefore should be the norm.

what does controlled media have anything to do with anything? if problem is so prevalent in China, then people would spread news among themselves, you don't need government news if your friend, people from work, classmates, neighbor or friends of friends, neighbors of neighbors got raped, it's simply not a prevalent problem. Violent crimes and rapes had never been an issue for westerners and locals alike. I have yet to hear westerners complain about violent crimes or rapes or gropes in China, whether they post their experience inside or outside china.
