What is the "racket" here? People are free to make their choice to apply for a visa or not - to any country. It is all up to them.
Seeing how the student loan crisis in the US is literally improvising a generation of Americans, I'm entertaining doubts about the value of getting a university education, excluding STEM subjects. I don't know how colleges and universities are justifying their existence when they raise their tuition and fees several times the rate of inflation.
I wouldn't complain too much if the federal government didn't write these schools blank checks in the form of grants and loans. Of course, some politicians are talking about loan forgiveness. A viable option, to be sure, but only if accompanies legislation that caps payments to such universities or, at a minimum, forces universities to curb their costs.
Plus, these colleges and universities are so greedy. They not only fleece you for tuition, fees, room, and board but take billions in government grants. And add to insult to injury, the beg you to donate to their multi-billion endowments.
