US to continue drone hits: Panetta

Great keep sending over those drone strikes! The WOT will surely end soon due to America's great and well though-out decisions!

Either they will continue to attack with drones or they dont attack at all ...
If they dont attack then they will be attacked from across the border ..if they are attacked from across the border ,they will again start drone attacks ...so what is the option for pakistan ?
It is a tight situation where they have to give guarantee that no attack will happen which originates from their part of the border ..but it is impossible as those areas are out of hand ...
Only they can hope for complete american withdrawal from afghanistan as early as possible

Good!

Drones lead to a safer world. :usflag:

Not necessarily.

Even with drones, like any other technology and tactic, there are pros and cons, and the relative merits of each need to be continuously evaluated, and thus a blanket statement like yours should not be made.

Now that the Shamsi air base is under Pakistan's control, what will those who said that Shamsi is very important air base being used for drone strikes say?

The whole issue was directed by the army and the government (which is more useless than a bird's sh1t) as a drama for public consumption as usual.

And our public as usual falls prey to the bait.

I think if our leaders got their act together Americans would not dare to launch drone attacks. After all Iranians are able to resist and Pakistan in many aspects is as strong if not stronger than Iran and America dares not attack Iran. What Pakistan needs is stern sincere leadership. Pakistan's people would support any Pak govt against American excesses

Can f-16 and jf-17 shot down predator drones ?

A Jet ranger can shoot down a drone with the pilot using a 9mm.
Point is the political, financial and diplomatic guts to do so.

Political because the PPP has a benefactor in democracy loving USA.. so they dont want to do anything that annoys the Americans with regards to the PPP.

Financial because the drones are in Pakistani airspace for a few minutes at maximum, Standing CAPs will cost massive amounts of money and great wear and tear on our Aircraft.

Diplomatic because if you do shoot down a drone, you just took on the US of A.. and the consequences of which neither the GoP or the Establishment have the gumption for.

In other words, the answer is NO.

Not to mention what would happen to the majority of Zardari's assets would end up being frozen in America. How can we expect our leadership to act against American interests when they have put their money in America??

In other words, the answer is NO.

Cheng its the same as the transit routes which you thought would be reopened within 30 days. If Americans continue there will be a time when the rubber band of tolerance breaks

come on they can shot them down they are a nuclear power...they may nuke them.

Pakistani nukes are Indian specific so would not be much use against American drones

, there are pros and cons, and the relative merits of each need to be continuously evaluated, and thus a blanket statement like yours should not be made.

This applies not just to Americans but Pakistan as well

According to what I have learnt from my sources knowledgable in south asian matters, NATO supply would NOT be opened by pakistan anymore. Pakistan has some very tough conditions in the bargaining table which US would (in all probabilities) never accept due to its covert war ambition against pakistan. This is the reason why till today, supply has not been opened although many Yankee worshipers like VCheng and LeGeNd may have thought otherwise when supply was blocked.

Also, there is a thought common among higher ups of the army that US was preparing for a military invasion of pakistan because the supplies contained very advanced equipment. Which is not normal because US is saying they will leave in 2014. Why would they need such advanced hardwares then?

At present, US is relying on NDN routes which are several times more expensive. While supplies are being carried by air through pakistan, they contain little no advanced military equipment. Pakistan has benefited Russia very much as Russia will now use NDN as a bargaining chip for US missile defense matter (thank you pakistan  ).

I really did not think Pakistan would keep the supply routes closed as long as it has. I still maintain that it is a mistake to do so, but now that it has played its trump card, it should be ready for the repercussions too. I thought that Pakistan would have the foresight to avoid those, but obviously I gave them too much credit.

The rubber band is wound pretty tight so far, wouldn't you agree?

Of course. USA continuously evaluates the drone program on an ongoing basis too. If the cons exceed the pros, I am sure it will be stopped. So far, the pros exceed the cons, it seems.

Euphemistically speaking...yes

Oh come now, you are speaking like a motivational speaker / management consultant! :D

(Do you live in a van down by the river too? :P )
