South China Sea: experts still in dark over what smashed into US submarine
  • USS Connecticut photographed moored in Guam with part of its nose removed, suggesting head-on collision with object, experts say
  • The submarine’s location the day after the incident means it could have suffered the damage near the Paracel Islands, they say

A recent satellite image suggests that damage to the USS Connecticut nuclear submarine may have happened in a head-on collision with a pint-sized submerged object in the South China Sea, military experts said.
The incident four weeks ago may have occurred in waters near the disputed Paracel Islands, controlled by China, indicating the Chinese navy could have detected the American sub on its way to Guam but was not aware of its damaged condition, observers added.
The first publicly available image of the nuclear attack submarine, which is moored at the United States Navy’s base in Guam, was captured by US private Earth imaging company Planet Labs on October 20, and first published by American technology and military site The Drive.

It couldn't have been a whale could it?

A whale cannot broken a SSN and make them retreat all the way to Guam.

The more interesting is :coffee:

Until now the US navy not released any clear pictures of that cursed Submarine, unlike other incidents. The photos that circulating on internet comes from old accident, not this one.

And also I found interesting, this cursed Submarines when retreated all the way to Guam. They avoiding the Bashi channel (the fastest route to Guam), instead they goes South and using Philippines archipelago to retreat to Guam.

There is a Good Analysis regarding the incident (with English Subtitle)

I take it you speak from extensive PERSONAL experience with submarines and underwater navigation.

The USS Seadragon was running on surface and collided with either a whale or a large shark or even another vessel. Damages were bent screws and some hull leaks.

With this latest event, we do not know the details because the damages could reveal some classified systems. But a collision with a whale should not be ruled out. There is something called 'physics' that you might want to look up, particularly when two masses collide.

It was a lost arctic mammoth penguin. Case closed. Nothing to see here. - Professional experts familiar with arctic penguins speaking from extensive experience with arctic penguins

🐧🚢

Its like everytime you hear about a colission in the South China Sea its some American vessel behind it.

China knows what happened. US knows what happened. US too embarrassed to disclose what happened and China is teasing them over it.

Could be that China lost a submarine and demand to know where the collision happened. Hence why they want the location of where the U.S. sub was at from start to finish and what was is doing. Inserting special forces? Deploying mines? Planting a nuke in a Chinese naval base, etc?

How come China doesn't know the location of the collision of her submarine while US know?

Think about it. China sub sinks, US sub survives and puts down the location of where it collided. Chinese crew dead, can't report its location...
