Pakistan wants a negotiated end to the conflict with the Taliban sharing power, which would be worse in what ways than the current corrupt government in Kabul, in terms of the impact on Pakistan?
I assume you refer to the governance of Afghanistan, NOT Pakistan. That says a lot. Are you saying it's OK for the people of Afghanistan to suffer under the Taliban, so long as it stays on THAT side of the border?
The current situation in Afghanistan sucks, but it's still superior to a central Taliban leadership.
History is now clearly showing that the US invasion of Afghanistan was a horrible and flawed idea, and hundreds of thousands of lives and hundreds of billions in economic losses could have been avoided had the US taken up the Taliban offer to extradite OBL and Co. for trial to a third country.
No one wanted some 3-year dog & pony show trial of OBL in the Netherlands. We wanted him, and all associated people remotely involved with 9/11 and the numerous bombings before and after that date, to die. Preferably slowly, but any way or means is OK.
The last thing we needed is an imprisoned, walking and talking martyr who will call press conferences and whine about the haram food in his jail cell. Can you imagine the violence and hostage situations that would have evolved over such an affair?
This was never the 'good/right war', and while the US may still get it, it deserves no 'face saving exit' from the Afghanistan theater, given the hundreds of thousands dead as a result of its warmongering policies.
Hundreds of thousands... really? You believe that nonsense? That would mean each and every individual U.S. soldier that ever walked on Afghanistan soil would personally have to kill several Afghanis. Do you believe that happened?
No war is "good" or "right", but some war is necessary. What would you have the U.S. do after 9/11? Whine to the U.N.? No self-respecting country is going to take an attack like 9/11 and simply sit back and do nothing. What would Pakistan have done if India had hijacked 4 big airliners and used them on Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad?
