US strategy to pitch India against China

latest statistic(2010) of those living under poverty line is 2% in China vs. 28% in India.

:rofl: No need for cpc and 50 cent propaganda.

One bus ride in beining is 40 cents RMB, that is 6 cents USD, the same bus ride in San Francisco is 2 USD.

In delhi its Rs. 3 or 6 cents USD.

One subway ride in beijing is 2 Chinese Yuan in a brand new 14 lines system with free transfer, that is 30 cents USD. The same BART ride in San Francisco is 6 dollars, the ride is horrible and slow like hell, it is nothing like the Chinese brand new trains and stations.
Oh, But the cost of a MBZ in China is hell lot more expensive than USA and India.

In Delhi Metro its just Rs. 8 or 16 cents USD. Less then china.

China to raise its poverty line

BEIJING - China says it will raise the poverty line by a big amount as part of its effort to spread the wealth more equally, according to Chinese media reports, but the public are not entirely convinced.

China set the current poverty level of 1,196 yuan ($176) per capita annually, in 2009, or about 6 times the amount of 1985, when the idea was first introduced in China.

The 1,196-yuan level is just 23 percent of the annual per capita income for rural people in 2009.

An unidentified National Bureau of Statistics official was quoted by the 21st Century Business Herald as saying on Wednesday, "The new poverty line should be raised to between 1,300 yuan and 1,400 yuan, which would take into account both basic living costs and requirements for a healthy life, including education and healthcare."

And, no timetable has been set for the new poverty line.

At the end of 2009, China had 35.97 million rural people living below the poverty line. This was 3.6 percent of the rural population, official figures showed.

But, as many as 150 million Chinese were actually living on less than $1.25 a day and were regarded as poor by the internationally accepted guidelines of the World Bank.

That number of people in China living below the international poverty line fell from 10.3 percent of the population in 2004 to 4 percent in 2007, according to the World Bank.

Wang Xiaolin, chief of the research unit at the International Poverty Reduction Center of China, said the country is planning to eliminate absolute poverty by 2020.

But, some analysts have pointed out that the poverty standard is not the only measure needed in removing poverty.

"The definition of poverty includes many things," Wang was quoted as saying by the 21st Century Business Herald. "In addition to low income, people lacking other basic protections such as education, medical care, and safe drinking water are also regarded as poor."

A government insider told China Daily on Wednesday that the country mainly helps the poor through preferential policies and funds at the local level to improve infrastructure.

"But, more work should be done in improving living conditions, such as road construction, electricity supply and guaranteeing safe drinking water.

"Currently, some poverty-stricken areas are not willing to spend more on the poor even when the local economy is well developed."

China to raise its poverty line

What the hell :cheesy::cheesy:

"China set the current poverty level of 1,196 yuan ($176) per capita annually"

How can one chinese person survive on less then half dollar per day (48 cents to be precise) that too by latest figured raised by govt of china.:blink:

LOL, do you think the "World Bank" and "BBC" are Chinese propaganda?:lol::lol:

The "World Bank" says that China's poverty rate was 4% in 2007, which your article also agrees with.

The BBC says that India has more poor people than Africa, this is from a 2010 BBC article. BBC News - 'More poor' in India than Africa

Bloody hilarious how INDIANS think they can lecture Chinese on poverty...

we dont consider ourselves as super power....not even close to be super power but at the same time we dont consider China as super power too.
Definitely China is 7-8 years ahead than us and more developed but super power:nono:

7-8 years does that mean in less than a decade India will be where china is today?

List of countries by future GDP (nominal) estimates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

will India be a $6 trillion economy is 7-8 years? what the growth rate on that? 30% a year? for the next 7 years?

all i got to said is that be some crazy azz growth at that rate India will easily be the biggest economy in 12 years

Not getting into a measuring contest vis-a-vis china, but that estimation seem to be very conservative or considering India's growth rate will be constant.

This is what we saw in last decade -

Can you tell me what growth rate India would require to reach 6 trillion in 7-8 years? From the current level of around 1.5 trillion?

China's growth rate has managed an average of around 10% for the last few decades.

I'm not an economist but India's growth curve seems to be identical to China's(with less vigour!)

World Development Indicators (subset) - Google Public Data Explorer

5 trillion by 2020 seems to be realistic to me.

China's growth rate has managed an average of around 10% for the last few decades

It's anticipated we will break the 10% barrier by 2012, I think last year it was 9.8%.

Just use a simple compound interest formula, something like 1.5*(1.08^7).

If you're talking about ten years ahead, not 7-8... then maybe.

It would have to be an "average" of 10% though, which is not easy to attain.

Indian need to understand one thing very clearly now

if there is going to be any USA/China war, the ground on which that war will be held is going to be indian..... so watch your steps in bull and dragon fight:)

Indian government also takes steps to provide its' poor and hungry.

Public distribution shop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'A public distribution shop, part of India's Public Distribution System, is a kind of shop in India which is used to distribute rations at a subsidized price to the poor.
Locally these are known as "ration shop" and chiefly sell wheat, rice, kerosene and sugar at a price lower than the market price. However, other essential commodities may also be sold. These are also called Fair Price Shops. For buying items from this shop one must have a ration card. These shops are operated throughout the country by joint assistance of central and state government.'

And price for 1 kg rice in these shops is Rs.2?! Think about it?! Just 2rupees that's like 4 american cents?! Not even dollar just 4 CENTS?!
