Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned the US once again to withdraw from the Syrian city of Manbij, saying that Turkish forces aim to return the city “to its true owners.”

Speaking at a meeting of his ruling AK Party in parliament on Tuesday, Erdogan said that countless terrorists had been“rendered inactive” by the recent Turkish offensive in Afrin. Vowing that the operation would continue, he mocked Washington's criticisms. “When are you going to finish with us asking the question, when did you finish your operations in Afghanistan? When did you finish your operations in Iraq? It's been 18 years,” Erdogan said, as quoted by Hurriyet.

He described the American military presence in Syria as opportunistic, saying that Washington had “calculations against Turkey, Iran and maybe Russia” now that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has been largely defeated.

Erdogan also vowed that Turkey would develop its defense sector and reduce reliance on foreign-made defense systems.

Last week, General Joseph Votel, head of the United States Central Command, said that pulling out from the strategically-important city is “not something we are looking into.” Ankara has previously called on US forces to leave the city, which is currently being held by US-backed Kurdish groups.

Erdogan’s warning comes just a week after similar statements from Turkey’s foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, who called on the US to leave Manbij immediately.

In response, Colonel Ryan Dillon, spokesperson for the US-led coalition, said that Washington would not abandon its Kurdish allies, which Ankara has accused of having links to terrorism.

“Turkey knows where our forces are in Manbij, and what they are doing there, and why they are there – to prevent any kind of escalation between the groups who are in that area,” Dillon told Kurdish media.

“The Coalition will continue to support our Syrian Democratic Forces in the fight against ISIS. We have said this all along, and we have said this with the Kurdish elements of the SDF. We will provide them equipment as necessary to defeat Daesh,” he added, using the Arabic pejorative term for IS.

The Turkish offensive has added additional strain to the already contentious relationship between Washington and Ankara. A White House spokesman recently remarked that the operation “risks conflict between Turkish and American forces” in Syria.

Turkish troops crossed into Syria in late January in an attempt to drive US-backed Kurds out of the city of Afrin. Erdogan has warned that the controversial offensive, codenamed ‘Operation Olive Branch’, could soon target “terrorists” in Manbij, which is 100km east of Afrin.

Who needs enemies when we have an ally like this.

Time to move towards Russia.

When i stated my opinion to advise all of Europe to invest in their defense industry and space industries,
i did not mean 'develop a defense industry to be able to take over cities in neighboring countries'.

once again, the Syrians tolerate the Kurds on their soil.
the Kurds HELPED OUT against ISIS. they've EARNED their (small!) reward.

and i fear the Turks ending up like the Germans in WW2 with their strategic location and new defense industry ambitions and pre-emptive-strike ambitions (especially those), but in this WW3 we find ourselves in now, later on.
WW3, mainly by desire of the worst Muslims, will be a war that spans multiple decades, i really fear that.

*that's* why the US now *has to* commit to longer duration missions.
and the US and their allies *do leave* (see Iraq-related headlines of this week) whenever there's a calm in the storm called WW3 aka War on Terror aka War of Terror.

i'll let the historians decide if WW3 = War on Terror, but for now i think this should be called the real 3rd World War. At least, i'm going to call it that.

point is : Erdogan and Turkish leaderships : You're on the wrong path here with these new defense industry plans. Stay unable to invade countries like Syria and Iraq please. For your own good and trackrecord in the global history books. You're clearly, for now, unsuitable as regional cops, Turks.

And don't forget that the Taliban only ended up "completely anti-Western" *after* they were left on the battlefield to fend for themselves.
We don't want the same happening to the Kurds, we won't *allow it to happen*, Turkish and Iran and Syrian leaderships.

i want that city now protected by the Americans to be under shared Kurdish and *Iraqi* control.
That means an Syrian mayor of the city to start with, but democratic elections that would probably see a lot of Kurds entering city-wide politics over there.

i want that city (please) to continue (perpetually) to be protected by the Americans (so the Turks won't attack, you're the first AND last line of *valid defense* for these brave Kurds, Americans),
and i want the US and *RUSSIANS* to put enough diplomatic *friendly* pressure on the Syrian leaderships (all of them) to allow the Kurds near-full autonomy in that city.
The same *should* apply to the moderates that started the demonstrations in Syria.

it's the only way to avoid a lot of grief, a lot of hardship, a lot of very very hurt feelings, and a lot of drive for revenge just 3 to 10 years or more down the road.

Nope...
Turkey need to move to Turkey "himself"

RU is already playing the dirty game with Turkey same as the US...
No need for Dirty allies... Grow alone...be stronger alone...

We aren't ready, when we at least have 50% the power of USA or Russia, then we can stand alone.
They are going to the moon and mars while we can't even fly to space.

There is still work to be done, we need some high tech 100% guaranteed nuke defense first, I'm sure they will have it soon with all the tech being developed.

That doesn't matter...

Being respected or feared does not imply being "Advanced"... YOu need to live to your own words... DO not care about anyone/thing...and fear no one... Just do your thing.

They have thousands of nukes and they are going to the moon and mars, we can't confront them 1 on 1 right now.

They would simply smash us all it takes is 1 nuke.

I think the solution is for most countries on earth to stand together against bullying by these super powers.

Like the UN vote on Jerusalem, that showed we are capable of standing together against bullying.

The farther will you be from USA , the safer will you be.

Kill the terrorists

.
The blood of the innocent will be on the hands of guys like you.
People who sit behind a keyboard hate-mongering.

What Turkey does is bullying. What the US is doing is trying to save the world economy and world stability from total collapse by morons like you, TurkeyForever. Sorry to have to put it so bluntly in public. I really am.

Funny a kurd calling me a moron.

Don't worry we will kill them all and we enjoy every bit of it!

Why don't you go and fight with your brothers and sisters against the Turkish army?

What was that?

No balls?

You can only sit behind a keyboard like a coward and make your kurd propaganda.

Kill the terrorists

We will kill every single one, I think we killed 1,000 so far.

It's like hunting Pigs

Turkey is on wrong side. Turkey should be ally of Russia .

at least ,Russians dont back stab .

The farther will you be from USA , the safer will you be.

It's ok if they backstab, but USA is doing it openly.

Its funny these people think Turkey should go easy on people who seek to kill and harm turks

Or let two faced foreign powers like the U.S dictate what happens on the ground

Like "peacefan" above, talking about "blood of the innocent" as a reply to me saying we will kill pkk/pyd.
How are they innocent? Earlier he said he was a kurd (which is fine) and now this, couldn't be more obvious which side he is on.

I didn't say we will kill "kurds" so his anger and calling me names goes to show we have an actual terrorist supporter on the forum.

This is the 2nd one today, there was another attacking Turkey and Turks non-stop but he got banned earlier today.

Many terrorist propaganda members are coming out of the closet and showing their true face on the forum.
