Alaska’s fleet of F-22 fighter jets and their elite pilots have been deployed to an airbase in the Pacific U.S. territory of Guam, according to officials at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. The deployment has been planned for some time, but happens to coincide with a period of escalating tension in the Pacific Theater, as Japan and China dispute who has the rights to a set of uninhabited, resource-rich islands. (from OP's article)

The deployment of the F22s by the US from Anchorage to Guam was a planned move, probably as a part of 'Asia Pivot' strategy by Obama. You can say, indirectly, its purpose is to contain China, however it's not particularly aiming at the flare-up of the Diaoyu conflict as many here assumed because of the timing.

Nevertheless it's still a big news item in considering the recent activities in this area but no news outlet has picked it up. Anyone?
