What's new

US Senate quietly votes to cut tariffs on hundreds of Chinese goods

I hope the new Pakistani govt impose high tariffs on imported Chinese goods, otherwise local manufacturers will not survive, which will lead to a total collapse of Pakistan economy.

Pakistan should never let the strategic alliance with China become an obstacle of its economic sovereignty
Chinese and Pakistan industry are pretty competitive and similarly priced. It's just that China has more technology and resources. Pakistan can sustain itself on its own industries, unlike America. Chinese goods which compete with co-existing Pakistani goods should be kept at a quota of 25% of the market. But unique Chinese goods like electronics, etc should have no tariff. I've heard that we import a lot of chicken from China.

Of course, this may not mean all of the high-tech exports are done by Chinese companies. Probably a bulk of them are exports by foreign companies and joint ventures. Nonetheless, they are still made in China.

This shows China's high-tech enterprises share in national economy has been increasing steadily. Consider that China's service industry already accounts for more than 60% of its economy.

Machine tools are definitely not low-end. See who produces how much. Of course, a bulk of this production must be for the purpose of export, as in the case of Taiwan. This is an area, I believe, Vietnam will beat India.

Such stats are for delusional people. If one trusts the stat you post, Japan is the low end production base for shoes because it exports less Hightech than Singapore.

You can see Japan hightech everywhere, in everything, every product from car to lift to building to chip to smartphone. Where can I see Singapore hightech?

You didnt know Broadcom ,SSMC and Seagate production in Singapore?

.
High end and low end, China wants them both cause they both make big money for China. China is the only country which has the ability to dominate both. is it so hard to get for Vietnamese?

Ok Singapore has two or three hightech, while Japan and Korea have none. No wonder that Singapore produces as much hightech as America, beating Japan and Korea with ease.

I will stop talking on Japan and from now on only make threads on superpower Singapore.

A thief can't rely on stealing to get ahead. When it comes to innovation, stealing can catch-up, but can never get ahead.

China to date had not relied on its massive government spendings to encourage domestic innovations. Just look at the tech companies, China has none that can compete with IBM and others which supplies hardware and software to its government and banking businesses. China needs to copy US laws which require all national defense procurement from only domestic sources, 100%. China's national defense will come crashing down when international sanctions apply pressure to its needed services, parts and materials.

The Chinese copy many things, but are not smart enough to copy what China needs the most, which is national independence in its technology innovation to supply its 50 years war with the U.S. When there's a blockade on China, the Chinese will be no better off than in 1949.

China needs an institution to study Western laws and copy all those that are better than the Chinese have or can think of. When that's done, everything else will advance all by itself. When you give abundant water, air, and sunshine, everything flourishes. That's why US does everything better than China in spite of a gridlock congress.

Another haters try his luck. China do copy some of the items but we improve on it. Tell me which superpower do not start with copy first? Soviet copy the famous B-29 as Tu-4. American steal Sweden 40mm bofor gun design and force Sweden to accept a small loyalty fee. Japan copy British engine and keep start their industries before producing their own design.

Your turkey if think so lowly of Chinese copy, how contract and import our High speed rail? Our CR3800 is based on many design of foreign import but any superpower that once catch up the current technology will eventually produced their own. The fuxing HSR is a good example, the average top speed and stability plus power saving is a generation ahead of all other HSR. If it is just a copy, how can it be better than original? A copy can never be better than original. Unless it input with own design and effort.

they been doing that for years now using products from CETC, huawei, fibrehome, alibaba, datang, tencent, inspur, baidu, etc... all thanks to snowden's revelation. the government knew long time ago, but they didn't want to be accused of protectionism and then out of nowhere snowden gave 'em perfect excuse to kick all american sh1t out off government procurement. IBM is not even big player in commercial sector in china nowadays, forget government or defence.

you must be living under a rock. china's national defense been under sanctions forever now and they are doing fine. :D

When there's a blockade on China, the Chinese will be no better off than in 1949.

NOPE. china been under tech sanctions for long time now and doing just fine. chinese defense tech are getting better and better. same with supercomputer, space, ai, materials, quantum tech, nuclear, high end cmos, supercomputer chips, HSR, etc..

why do you think the US is going apesh1t hysterical with MIC 2025? is that the reaction toward a country that is no better off than 1949? :cheesy:

no thanks. just worry about your own country. LoLz

This tariff war is all about noise by US Gov to appease their core voters....US Gov and its people has to understand that their citizen consume more products on this world than they really deserve to consume...This is only happening because, they are getting things manufactured at the expense of people of other nations....

US dependence of China for manufacturing goods is an irreversible process...Politicians can make noise to fool around people but they can not stop it..

just another clueless fool pretending to know sh1t when he doesn't even know china has been under technology sanctions forever now from the west. he even mentioned china's national defence procurement must go local or deepsh1t if there's blockade.. lolz. wtf? :cheesy::lol:

Chinese low cost goods are like a drug.

Once u r addicted, there's no way u can tolerate going back.

Americans are not gonna be happy paying 2dollars for a toothpaste that use to cost 1dollar.

Read from somewhere that 1/5 of China's exports goes to the US. These makes sense because the other 4/5 goes to the rest of the world. Everything that's in my house right now is made in China
